We are striving to right the wrongs of the past, please be patient with me - BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari, has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, for understanding, stressing that his administration is determined to meet their needs.

The President made the appeal during the convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo state.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwuka, urged ASUU to appreciate the current economic challenges that has financially constrained the Federal Government from meeting its demands.

Buhari assured that his administration will not renege on its promise to provide opportunities and avenues so that youths can develop their skills and creative ingenuity.

He said, “As partners in progress, I plead for understanding and cooperation as the government is committed to addressing the various issues being canvassed by the Union, as we strive to right the wrongs of the past.

“The fear is further amplified with the rising unemployment coupled with the recent economic recession that has befallen our beloved country. Periods like this are opportunities for geniuses to emerge.”

Buhari is solely to blame for Nigeria's economic woes - Social Media Man

Just setting the records straight for reference purposes. This was a publication by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning on their website

It can be seen from the publication that Oil accounted for only less than 18% of Nigeria's GDP between 2010 and 2014, when Nigeria recorded most of the high crude oil sales. in 2014 for instance, Oil accounted for barely 11% of Nigeria's GDP. This was the same time when Nigeria had the Biggest economy in Africa; which included Industries like telecoms, information technology, music, online sales, airlines, and film production.

This raises an important question that if oil accounted for a very insignificant part of our GDP, How then could Nigeria have gone into recession due to drop in Oil Revenue?

Since Buhari assumed office in May 2015, there has been a consistent decline in Business and Investment, he has been unable to develop a clear policy direction for his administration. His incompetency, Rushed TSA Implementation, unguarded statements about the economy and against sections of the country which unduly heated up the polity, Stiff Forex policy and Lack of a clear policy direction eroded investor confidence and caused agitation in the Niger Delta Region.

These are the factors which drove Nigeria to a recession. Lets be very clear with this fact and find a way to move this country forward.

One thing is clear, if Buhari does not honestly take responsibility for the mess and seek solutions which include everyone, He may not be able to champion Nigeria out of the mess because Government only succeeds when the stakeholders and people have confidence in it.

God Bless Nigeria

Abuja Indigenes cry out over Presidential snub for Ambassadorial positions

Following the non-inclusion of an indigene of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the ambassadorial nomination list, the indigenes have appealed to both President Muhammadu Buhari and the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, to forgive them if they have committed any offence that has deprived them of a place in government.

President of Abuja Original Inhabitant Youth Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO), Commandant Isaac David, who briefed the press on behalf of the indigenes, lamented that since the beginning of the present administration, it seems that the government has forgotten indigenes of the FCT.

David said that the indigenes are presently experiencing the opposite of the promise made to them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the presidential campaign, that they will be carried along and given ministerial slot and other political appointments if President Buhari is voted into office.

According to the indigenes, the present administration has not kept its promises and has refused to include them in its government through ministerial slot and the recent submission of ambassadorial nominees without the inclusion of any FCT indigene.
“We are appealing to President Buhari and the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello that if the stakeholders and political leaders of the FCT have offended them, they should forgive them and carry us along in this government. We want to be part of this government, because we are sincerely in support of it.

“We voted for President Buhari and also voted for the APC in all the FCT area councils, so we deserve to be part of this government and contribute directly to the development of our people and the entire nation. Since the beginning of this administration, no national political office has been given to any indigene and we have qualified people that can occupy any political office in Nigeria,” David said.

The natives also stressed that President Buhari is also directly the governor of the FCT and it would be wise, if he gives the indigenes their rightful place in the affairs of governance, so that they can give their useful contribution to the benefit of national development.

APC is not doing well, The crowd around Buhari has nothing to offer - Junaid Mohammed

In an exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, Second Republic member of the House Representatives and Russian-trained Medical Doctor, Dr. Junaid Mohammed x-rayed the about 18 months of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, with a verdict that the government has not done well, and that Nigerians should begin to plan the exit of the current administration, through constitutional means.

It is now about 17 months since the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration came into being, looking at the journey so far, how would you assess the government?

Well, I sincerely hope you are not expecting me to be sycophantic. You have known me over the years; I don’t pay lip service to mediocrity, when in fact, it is a mediocrity. Addressing directly, the questions you just posed to me. I think anybody who has been living in this country since the 29th of May 2015, till this date, knows that the lot of persons in this country has been very, very, very bad. It is also very clear that this government has not lived up to expectations of Nigerians. Bribery and corruption are and have always been existential threat to the survival of this country, its progress and prosperity. So, as for the re-energised fight against corruption, the government has gotten it right. But beyond that, other aspects for which the ruling party and government in power, made definite promises and commitment to Nigerians, have not come to pass. So as far as I am concerned, it is a record that I am not impressed about.

The picture you have painted now appears to be at variance with the position of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, which said recently that the North would back Buhari again, should he present himself again in 2019. You were at the summit in Kaduna, are you now dissociating yourself from that position?

I was invited to attend the meeting in Kaduna. I was not invited as a member because I have never been and will never be a member of the Northern Elders Forum, and same applies to the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF. But where a situation arises, that I am given an invitation to attend a meeting or conference, to discuss issues, in which I believe matters that we have mutual concerns or interest in, can be discussed, I will attend. Let me say it loud and clear that I am not a party to those who believe, for whatever reason that, Buhari is entitled to a second term, especially when that wishful thinking, has refused to take into cognizance his performance in office. He has not performed, in my view, well enough, to be given a second term. This is being said, not only by me, but by also his own wife. And he cannot be closer to anybody, than his own wife.

Also, let me also say here that there was something fraudulent in the manner the NEF summit in Kaduna, was convened. After I left, a day or so after, a kind of communiqué was issued, in which it was stated that we will support him, as a northerner. That is not my understanding of how politics is played. Forget about what they say, even if they said so. I attended because Prof. Ango Abdullahi invited me. But if the proceedings of the summit are anything to go by, I doubt if anyone can tell me, the aim was to support Buhari. You cannot gather personalities, and use them to legitimize your endorsement of Buhari, for a second term. That is not my understanding of politics and that is not the way I play politics. I have never claimed to speak for the North, so I don’t know what the decision of the North will be. And nobody can claim the arrogance to speak for the North, to the extent that if he said the North should vote for Buhari, they will listen to him. I doubt, if the North will listen. The North has never been a monolithic one. There have always been divergent views on issues. Check the history. So it has been, so it is today, and so it will always be, till the end of time.

Should Buhari decide to run, will you support him?
I will not vote for him, and I will not campaign for him.

Earlier, you said, you will never be a member of either the ACF or NEF, our readers would want to know the reason or reasons for this position, as they would have thought that you are a leading member of either of the groups?

If you listened to what I said earlier, I said that the North is not a monolithic one. So it will be fraudulent for anyone to claim the arrogance of speaking for it. Now, the point I want to make has to do with NEF. It is not wrong to use some kinds of people, like a pressure group, within the context of a noble cause, to pressurize the government of the day, to think in some certain direction, or implement certain policies. However, how can a group, that is not democratic, be discussing about democratic ideals? How can you talk about democracy, when you don’t have elections? It is just a one man or two man show. I find that very ridiculous. And these people claim to be representing us. Who are they, to represent us? So, I don’t talk democracy with people who are undemocratic. Since NEF was established, has there been any election? How can you talk of democracy with people who are non-democratic? As for ACF, they do have some semblance of elections, but some of the claims they make on behalf of the North are totally untenable and there is no internal cohesion in the group.

Away from the North, in less than two years, the ruling party appears to be enmeshed in crisis, are you in any way surprised?

I wasn’t surprise at all, because the party was formed for the purpose of winning elections, and only that. It has no internal democracy, it lacks democratic ideals. All they were after was win elections, form government and abuse their stay in government, to abuse public trust. So I am not surprised at all. They are bankrupt morally and ideologically. Everything they have done so far, were not different from what the PDP did in the last 16 years. Therefore, the APC government as it is today has no moral superiority over the PDP. The chairman of the party is at war with the Publicity Secretary of the party. The party has no role in the government and Buhari does what he likes. Some people are important because they are close to Buhari and have access to him, while others don’t matter. A party that claims to be a party of the left, cannot do without rigorous debates, every issue must be discussed and subjected to a rigorous debate before decisions are taken. But that is not happening with the APC, as a government and as a party, which promised us change.

In view of the foregoing, what will you advise Nigerians to do next, especially putting into consideration Obasanjo’s recent verdict, wherein he said APC was not a strong party in government and that the PDP was not a strong party in opposition?

I don’t know if I can prescribe an option immediately. A political party, is nothing but an organisation, driven by politics, but driven more so by the need to aggregate and articulate the intentions of people, who are forming that party. It is not committee of friends, it is not a place for people to come and become wealthy, it is not a place for people to glorify an individual and who in turn, turned himself, into a kind of personality cult. But in APC, what we have is a personality cult of Buhari, and it is dangerous for Buhari, it is dangerous for the government, it is dangerous for the country, as well as the party. And this type of party is not the best for the country. Someone needs to sit Buhari down, and talk sense into his head, face-to-face, if they really want to make success of this opportunity. No doubt, I have my disagreements with Obasanjo, but on the issue at stake, Obasanjo is absolutely spots on. He is right. Except those who formed these two parties go back to the drawing board, we are not likely to have the political room for maneuver, as we so desire now.

I know God alone can determine who lives till 2019, but being human, Nigerians are already talking about it. What should Nigerians expect?

I think those who are bothered about 2019, should please start getting alliances across, and start planning how to bring down the APC government, through constitutional means, and to also make sure they deny the PDP, a second chance of ruling the country again. APC is not doing well; I don’t think Buhari is going to do any better. The crowd around Buhari has nothing to offer. Apart from the fight against corruption and insurgency, they haven’t done any other thing. How the system rejigs itself and creates a two or three party system, I don’t know. But those who care about 2019 should start and demonstrate their care now, because we don’t want a situation whereby the crowd around Buhari, provide Nigeria with a dilemma. I don’t think Nigeria deserves that. Clearly, from what we have seen, APC has nothing to offer. And Buhari himself has nothing to offer. They have been lying through their teeth, and the more they lie, the more they become embarrassment to the international community.

Are you saying the PDP stands no chance of returning to power?

In life, as well as political life, you must be prepared to pay the price for your own political mistake, and the only way I know people are made to pay a political price in a democracy is to deny them the opportunity to return to power or get them out of power, if they are in power. As far as I am concerned, I don’t see the deliverables of this country, through the PDP.

Are you saying the PDP cannot bounce back?

The man on whose behalf the party was formed, for the purpose of taking over from the Military, left the party and tore his membership card. I believe the party is beyond redemption. Nobody can be more important than Obasanjo in the PDP, and he also said so recently, even though he has limited knowledge about party ideology and how an ideological party is run.

Finally, you are from the North; people from outside see you as being conservative, when it comes to your men dealing with their wives, would you say that the President’s wife was right to have upbraided the husband in the market place?

Well, the question to ask is, is the President right to have upbraided the wife publicly and putting her in certain situations? Well, I don’t believe a wife, should cease to be a wife simply because she has a different political view from her husband. We are living in the 21st century, if madam Buhari, had commented on issues that have affected her position as wife, vis-avis the General, it would have been improper for me to comment. But she commented as a Nigerian citizen who has all the constitutional right to comment. Whether the north is conservative or not, is a matter we can resolve another day, at another session. And you don’t look at a wife who has a Master’s degree and expect her to behave like a house girl. It doesn’t happen that way.

I have received calls from my friends from the Southern part of the country, telling me they don’t know our women can be bold to talk the way Madam Buhari did, and I just laugh. Are they saying the air we breathe in the north, is different from theirs or what? And we also have to look at the culture. There is nothing she did, which is wrong, because she is playing politics, the way her husband is playing it. And the truth is that the country has been badly shortchanged by the individuals she mentioned and who we know. What is wrong with that? If you have not elected somebody, why should you keep quiet when the person is exercising political power? This individual is not a government appointee, yet, he wields more powers than the President. We elected Buhari, but this individual, even uses the Presidential jets, more than the person we willingly elected to exercise political power. And if the President’s wife is now complaining, what is wrong with that?

The interview was conducted by TUNJI LASISI.

Return the 10bn seized from NBC, Buhari orders EFCC

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the return of N10bn seized from the National Broadcasting Commission by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Director-General of NBC, Mallam Is’haq Kawu, made this known to newsmen in Abuja yesterday at a press conference to announce the 20th edition of Africa Broadcasting Conference and Exhibition coming up in Abuja next week.

The money is part of the funds realised by the NBC from the controversial sale of frequency to MTN Nigeria Communications Limited.

The funds had been a subject of probe by the EFCC following allegation that the broadcast regulatory agency failed to remit it to the Treasury Single Account at the time prescribed by the Federal Government.

The NBC had claimed that the funds were meant for projects being executed for the country’s migration to digital broadcasting.

Kawu said the funds would be channelled towards projects and programmes aimed at achieving the transition to digital broadcasting for which a deadline of June 2017 had been set.

He added that the NBC was planning to establish a content development for the broadcast industry as the era of digitisation was expected to create immense need for content development as a result of multiple channels to be witnessed in the new era.

“We are going to assist a lot of young people to get finances for the production of their contents. We are thinking in terms of content development fund within the NBC and the NBC also provides opportunity for young content providers” he said.

According to Kawu, a 10 per cent increase in the digitisation of the broadcast industry is predicted to create one million new jobs.

Interesting !!! Aisha Buhari says she may not support President Buhari 2019,- Buhari replies : Her Place is in the Kitchen

The President’s wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has warned that her support for her husband for 2019 election rest on the her husband’s readiness to shakeup his government.

Aisha Buhari in a BBC Hausa interview monitored in Kano pointed out that Buhari’s government has been hijacked by cabal who are “behind presidential appointments”.

Mrs Buhari said that “he is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again “.

However  President Muhammadu Buhari  responded to the BBC interview with his wife, Aisha, where she questioned his leadership.

Buhari, who left the country on wednesday for a state visit to Germany, reacted to the interview during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Associated Press reports that he laughed it off and said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room

and the other room.”

He also said that he had much more political experience,  they reported

''Buhari Is Sick'' Says Charly boy

Nigeria’s controversial artist Charly Boy, in a new post has said that the president is seriously sick and the country is being run by other people.
He took to his Instagram page some hours ago to post the picture of the president, with the caption:
L-R: Charly Boy, Buhari
”My people, Una don hear? Them say our President dey suffer from Alzheimer disease. Hummmm, wahala don full ground. Kai! Chineke God why? That sickness wey dey make old people forget many things. Amibo people say the matter is wounding our presido heavily. Ha, which kin bad luck we get sef. I hear say the cabals don take over, Na dem dey run we country. Guys we don enter the real One Chance.
What do we do?”
For those who do not know what an Alzheimer disease is, it is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events (short-term memory loss). According to research, as the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self care, and behavioural issues. As a person’s condition declines, they often withdraw from family and society. Gradually, bodily functions are lost, ultimately leading to death. Although the speed of progression can vary, the average life expectancy following diagnosis is three to nine years.

Recall that there have been speculations that the president who is currently in Germany is there for a medical checkup. Aside from holding bilateral meetings, he is alleged to be scheduled to visit a local hospital. But it is unclear whether the president has any kind of a medical problem as claimed by Charly Boy or it’s an ordinary medical checkup. However, when the presidency finally announced the
Buhari’s Germany’s official three-day visit , the media aide didn’t reveal if he will undergo a medical checkup aside meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel over the current situation in Nigeria.

War against Terrorism or Recession ?? PMB donates 2 aircraft from the Presidential fleet to the Nigerian Air Force

Two aircraft from the presidential fleet have been handed over to the Nigerian air force, barely a weeks after two jets from the same fleet were put up for sale.

At the handover ceremony on Monday, Babagana Monguno national security adviser, signed the transfer documents on behalf of the president.

The two helicopters, which are part of the 10 aircraft in the presidential air fleet, were acquired on October 20, 2014 and May 21, 2015.

According to the presidency office of digital engagement, the two aircraft being handed over today are Agusta Westland AW101 helicopters and possess ballistics defence capabilities, and are equipped against certain forms of missile attacks.

“It is with a big sense of appreciation that I accept these helicopters into the Air Force,” said Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff.

“One of the helicopters will be configured and deployed as an air ambulance, while second will be deployed as a troop carrier. The two helicopters will be immediately reconfigured and deployed to the northeast for the use of Nigerian troops.

“The air ambulance will carry a trauma unit, to ensure that injured troops get immediate medical assistance during airlift. These helicopters are some of the most sophisticated, most comfortable and most equipped in the world.

“We can’t wait to fly our new aircraft. That’s why we’re all dressed in combat gear.”

Since Muhammadu Buhari ascended the presidency in May 2015, this is the second time he is handing aircraft from the presidential air fleet to the Nigerian air force.

NIgeria can no longer stand aside and watch Buhari destroy our democracy - PDP reacts to the arrest of Judges

Reacting to the News trailing the abduction like arrest of Judges last saturday, Main opposition party, the People's Demoocratic Party has released a statement condeming the action.

They said no president in the history of the country has attacked the Judiciary like that.

Read the statement in full Below

Sometime in the early hours of October 8th, 2016 men of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) carried out Gestapo like invasions on the homes of a number of Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Federal High Court.

The affected Justices of the Supreme Court were, Sylvanus Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro. The affected Judges of the Federal High Court were Muazu Pindiga, Adeniyi Ademola, Abdullahi Liman and Nnamdi Dimgba.

At this time, Justices Ngwuta and Okoro of the Supreme Court and Justices Adeniyi & Pindiga had been abducted and detained. Justice Dimgba only escaped abduction because he was not at home at the time. Justice Abdullahi’s abduction was prevented by the timely intervention of Governor Nyesom Wike, who insisted on the observance of the rule of law and the application of due process.

Governor Nyesome Wike was assaulted by the men of the DSS during his intervention causing him to sustain injuries on his arm. At a point, an officer pointed a fully cocked gun at him and threatened to shoot him.

The invasion was carried out between 0100hrs and 0500hrs in the early morning using hundreds of fully armed men of the DSS. During the invasion, the Justices were manhandled and members of their families as well as their household staff beaten up.

This invasion is the latest in a series of actions taken by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration which reveal its disregard for the rule of law and its abject disdain for the Principle of Separation of Powers.

This inexorable slide into fascism began with the invasion of the Akwa Ibom State Government House by the self same DSS, the continued detention of several people despite Courts ordering their release, the invasion of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and detention of Hon. Akanni Afolabi and the invasion of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

This slide into fascism has included a sustained attack on the leadership of the National Assembly as President Buhari has sought to break its independence and make it a rubber stamp to suit his will.

It is worthy to note that NEVER in the history of our Country has any President attacked the Judiciary in such a manner. Even the late dictator - General Sani Abacha, whose regime is remembered by many as the second worst regime in Nigerian history, did not carry out such Gestapo style attacks on the members of the Judiciary.

By bringing this attack to the Judiciary, President Buhari has shown that he has no desire to respect the pillars of our democracy. He has shown his desire to kill off our democracy and convert it to an autocracy without checks and balances.

The government has no regard for the rule of law. They do not care about Court Orders. This Government has disregarded the Orders of the ECOWAS Court and every other Courts in the land and continue to detain Dasuki illegally. They continue to detain hundreds of Nigerians without bringing them to trial and against valid Court Orders.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Constitution in Section 153(1)(i) and Part 1 of the Third Schedule thereto establishes the National Judicial Council (NJC) and empowers same to regulate and discipline judges across the Country. The proper path to follow to discipline erring judges will be to forward a petition containing any wrong doing to the NJC along with any evidence in support thereof.

The path not to follow is this Gestapo style invasion in the middle of the night that involves the use of sledgehammers to breakdown gates and front doors for DSS to gain access to the homes.

Nigerians can no longer afford to stand aside and watch the Buhari Administration destroy the foundations of our democracy that we have built for several years. Nigerians have a duty to speak out against this sort of tyranny.

God bless Nigeria.

CBN Governor gets Vote of Confidence from FG.

The Presidency appears to have passed a vote of confidence on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, following the moves by some members of the House of Representatives to remove him from office.

A Presidency source said, at the weekend, that the Federal Government has confidence in Emefiele to see the country, alongside top government officials in the economic sector, out of recession.

A motion sponsored by Hon.Ali Isa (Balanga/Billiri constituency, Gombe State), titled, “Call for investigation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s forex policies”, last week, had called for the sack of Emefiele and his team over the fate of the Naira.

The call was supported by Hon. Mojeed Alabi, representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedero/Ejigbo (Osun State) and Hon. Wale Raji, representing Epe (Lagos), among other lawmakers in the House.

A Presidency official, reacting to the moves, told Newsmen that President Muhammadu Buhari “is far from convinced that Emefiele is responsible for the currency crisis or the economic recession”.

“The CBN Governor briefs the President regularly on the situation, on the inflow of dollars every month and how much is being demanded by importers. The President has seen the progression and regression over the years and how the scarcity of forex is causing the sharp drop in the value of the Naira. He believes it is very unreasonable to sack Emefiele and CBN management,” said the official, who declined being named because he was not mandated to officially speak on the issue.

He added: “When oil price was $120 per barrel and we had reserves of over $60 billion, the Naira was doing well. That was when we should have checked the import dependency to grow the local economy. We did not do that. The President is not convinced that now that crude oil price is less than $50 and production has dropped drastically because of militant activities, Emefiele should be blamed for the falling Naira”.

According to the source, the President believes Emefiele has done his best in the difficult circumstances that Nigeria has found itself.

It was learnt that the CBN has made many interventions since the crisis started to stabilise the finances of states and the Federal Government.

A source at the Ministry of Finance said the CBN, acting as lender of last resort, has provided loans of over N420 billion to several states to pay workers’ salaries in the last two years, outside their statutory allocations.

Each of the 36 states has also collected N10 billion for infrastructure development, while the N350 billion “stimulus spending” recently announced by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, was provided by the Central Bank.

SEE! What President Buhari Asked EFCC To Do To His Children And Family Members If They are Corrupt.

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken to the EFCC on what they must to his children if they are corrupt.

President Buhari has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies to probe even his own children or members of his family implicated in corrupt practices.

The President said he would not forgive the anti-graft agency if it fails to pobe any allegation of corruption against his children and family members.

According to The Nation, a sketch of Buhari’s tough anti-corruption mindset and plans was contained in a book, “Muhammadu Buhari: The challenges of leadership in Nigeria”, which is authored by Prof. John Paden.

The book reveals how Buhari inspired the acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu as a school boy to develop anti-graft traits.

It adds: “Buhari’s attitude is to let the chips fall where they may in particular cases, although reform of the judiciary is one of his larger goals.

“Buhari has often said that if any of his own children were accused of corruption, and the authorities did not investigate, he would never forgive the authorities.”

It was also learnt that the President has rebuffed pressure to save his allies in the All Progressives Congress(APC) from being probed by anti-graft agencies.

In spite of their close family ties, it was learnt that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to save the former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki because his policy is that there should be no sacred cows in the anti-corruption war.

It was also revealed for the first time that Buhari does not have any grudge against Dasuki despite the latter’s involvement in the August 1985 coup, which led to the former’s removal as a military head of state.

“On numerous occasions, Buhari has urged public officials to do their duty without fear or favour. He has also tried to inspire younger generations to regard public service as an honest calling.

“For example, the current acting head of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu was a schoolboy in Borno when Buhari was military governor in 1975. Buhari gave a talk to a group of boys that included Magu and urged them to do their best.

“Magu was inspired and became a professional policeman.

“In 2015, Buhari asked Magu to head the EFCC, a dangerous job if done well. By mid-May 2016, Magu had secured 143 convictions of corrupt officials.”

Unknown to many, the book has revealed how Buhari resisted pressure to save his allies in APC from being arrested or prosecuted for corruption.

It also unfolded Buhari’s vision for a set of specialized anti-corruption tribunals to fast-track the war against corruption.

The book adds: “The EFCC has been functioning since the administration of President Obasanjo, when it was under the direction of Nuhu Ribadu, a policeman and lawyer who initially was effective before political pressures began to intrude.

“Under President Jonathan, the EFCC was directed by Ibrahim Lamorde and seemed, from the outside, to be functioning well. Inside, however, rumours of corruption among EFCC officials abounded.

“Under President Buhari, the acting chair of EFCC has been Ibrahim Magu, who seems to have taken his lead from Buhari’s determined fight against corruption.

“The widespread investigations conducted by the EFCC and the number of referrals to prosecutors have been unprecedented in EFCC’s history.

“In addition, Buhari discussed his anti-corruption efforts with the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Mohammed Mahmud, who agreed to establish a set of specialised anti-corruption tribunals.

“These tribunals would cover both military and civilian cases. Creating such tribunals, however, requires special authorization from the National Assembly, which has been slow in coming.

“Although a number of senior officials have been tried for corruption prior to the Buhari presidency, the extent of current corruption court cases in Nigeria is unprecedented.

“That does not mean that every case will lead to a guilty verdict.

“All of the accused are entitled to their day in court, and are likely to have high-quality legal representation; and there will surely be appeals and possible plea bargains.

“Cases may drag on for years. But the fact remains: the law is takings its course.

“Importantly, in none of these cases (apart from certain military procurement scandals that impacted National Assembly) has the prosecution been sponsored or encouraged by President Buhari.

“He has kept his hands off the judiciary, despite enormous pressure for him to come to the aid of APC allies.

“The question will arise when criminal cases are concluded as to whether the Nigerian judiciary is up to the task of being even-handed in such high-level cases.”

On a former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki it was revealed for the first time that the President has no grudges with the ex-NSA.

It says: “It is beyond the scope of this study to assess all the backstories of the relationship between Buhari and Dasuki. Suffice to say that the so-called grudge between the two has never really existed.

“Dasuki is 12 years younger than Buhari, even though Dasuki did participate in the 1985 countercoup.

“The family of Ibrahim Dasuki and the Buhari extended family have been linked by marriage for more than four decades.

“In addition, in his inaugural address, Buhari had professed that although “the past is prologue,” he had no time to pursue alleged “enemies”.

“Rumours were rife that the Dasuki trial would be held behind closed doors, rather than conducted in public.

“Dasuki insisted on a public trial and protested his innocence. How the judicial system handled such a high-profile case would be a major political test for Buhari.

“If the focus of the Dasuki case was on procurement corruption within the Jonathan military and political teams, the public exposure of the facts of the case would be in the public interest.

“But for national security issues that required confidentiality were involved, then a non-public trial might be warranted.

“The stakes were high for the Buhari administration. Buhari had insisted that legal accountability be left to the courts. He also had insisted that he was not interested in settling scores.

“Whether the judicial system was capable of handling such cases without fear or favour remained to be seen. The key was to deliver equal treatment under the law, and to be seen by wider public to be doing so.

“The last thing Buhari wanted was a show trial. His own administration would be on trial over how this matter was handled.”

The book has however X-rayed the complexities of the ongoing trial of some looters.

Bring Peace to Niger Delta Region and restore the oil production target of 2.2 million barrels per day - NASS Tells PMB

The National Assembly has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to engage in meaningful and inclusive dialogue with the aggrieved Niger Delta militants to avoid an escalation of the militancy in the region.

The National assembly agreed that the government needs to ensure the protection of the nation’s oil and gas assets to facilitate increase in oil production and boost revenue therefrom.

The House, in the motion, also adopted the 25 point resolutions of the Senate adhoc committee on the ‘state of economy’ on September 27, 2016.

The House said: “Government must engage in meaningful and inclusive dialogue with the aggrieved Niger Delta militants to avoid an escalation of the unrest in the region and ensure protection of our nation’s oil and gas assets to facilitate increase in oil production and boost revenue therefrom.  “To this end, we advise Mr. President to, as a matter of urgency, raise a team that should coordinate the government’s engagement with all stakeholders in the Niger Delta region and the team should include the elected representatives from the zone.”

The National Assembly also advised the fiscal and monetary authorities to meet a view to harmonising all policies that lower interest rates for genuine investors in the real sector as well as medium and small scale farmers and processors. The NASS advised the government to restore the oil production target of 2.2 million barrels per day in order to shore up our foreign reserves. It said peaceful means should be immediately crafted and adopted to stop the vandalisation of petroleum and gas assets in the Niger Delta region.

Buhari Authorised The Sale Of Two Presidential Aircraft

Finally, President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the sale of two presidential aircraft, a Falcon 7x executive jet and Hawker 4000 from the Presidential Air Fleet, PAF.
This was in tune of his 2015 election campaign promises of selling off many of the airplanes to reduce cost if elected as president.
More of the aircraft would also be sold in the coming days.Recall that Controversy had trailed the promise in the past as to whether the president would live up to his words.
Presidency sources confirmed that PAF contains 10 aircrafts which affected the nation’s revenue.

The aircrafts included Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-800 or AirForce One), one Gulfstream 550, one Gulfstream V (Gulfstream 500), two Falcons 7X, one Hawker Sidley 4000, two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters and two AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters.
The presidency yesterday put out some advertorial, announcing the sales.
Reacting afterwards to the authenticity of the advertorials, the Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity to president Buhari, Mallam Grana Shehu said that indeed, the president made the approval for the sale, it was in line with the APC election campaign promises in 2015, stressing that the development would help save more money for the country.
“This is in line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that aircraft in the Presidential air fleet be reduced to cut down on waste.
“When he campaigned to be President, the then APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari, if you recall, promised to look at the presidential air fleet with view to cutting down on waste.
“His directive to a government committee on this assignment is that he liked to see a compact and reliable aircraft for the safe airlift of the President, the Vice President and other government officials that go on special missions.
“This exercise is by no means complete.
“I am sure the Commander of the Presidential air fleet will any time from now, call you to a ceremony at which he will hand over some other aircraft to the Airforce for their operations”, Shehu explained in a statement yesterday.

Bola Tinubu calls for the return of HISTORY as a subject in secondary schools.

All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has called for the return of History as a subject in the country’s school curriculum, saying any nation which forgets its past has lost a beacon to guide its actions.

The former Lagos state Governor's call came in a short remark after reviewing the book, entitled Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, yesterday.

He said the removal of History as a subject to be taught in Nigerian schools was disturbing, and lamented that the move would cut off younger generations of Nigerians from learning about the nation’s history and tradition as well as past mistakes.

He said: “If countries, including United States of America, teach their students about their histories, why not Nigeria, with its rich history and tradition? History helps a people to connect with the past and learn from past pitfalls.”

The book, written by Professor John N. Paden is an authorised biography of President Buhari.

According to the Tinubu, the book attempts a road characterisation of the different stages of President Buhari’s life and professional career.

He said: “The book explores how his professional career, his personal life and prior experiences in government shaped and prepared him for the momentous assignment he now has. “From the book’s pages, we see a man who has lived his life on assignments that always intersected with vital moments in the nation’s history. He was a man on assignment, when, in the military, he served bravely in a civil war to keep Nigeria united. “He was on national assignment when he became military head of state in a well-intentioned effort to straighten things out, and set Nigeria on a better path. “When he ventured into politics and competed for the Presidency, culminating in his 2015 election victory, he was still on assignment, showing that there was no other way for this nation to go but the way of democracy, no matter how difficult the path may be.”
