Is this government out to tax Nigerians to death - Ayo Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government desire was to tax Nigerians to death, saying; “Nigerians must resist any attempt to impose new tax on them.”

The governor described the federal government’s plan to increase the cost of data as wicked, adding that “Most Nigerians are still alive today because they are kept busy by their access to social media. They relieve themselves of the burden of hunger and despair, placed on them by the federal government’s lack of policy direction by reading news and jokes, chatting with friends, watch comedy movies, etc. Denying them of this opportunity through increment in the cost of internet subscription will mean that the federal government deliberately wants many Nigerians, especially the youths to die of depression.”

He hailed the Senate for directing the National Communication Commission (NCC) to suspend the planned increment, saying; “The government must be sensitive to the plight of the people. Today, despite all the taxes and increments in services rendered by federal government agencies, minimum wage has remained at N18, 000 while millions of jobs have been lost. Do they want Nigerians to pay with their blood?”

In a release issued in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “If the only way the federal government believes it can take Nigeria out of recession is to impose obnoxious taxes that will further impoverish the people, the federal government is not being fair to Nigerians.”

He said; “Under 20 months of Buhari’s government, petrol price was increased from N87 to N145 per litre, kerosene; diesel and gas price was increased, electricity tariff was increased, N50 stamp duty was introduced on bank customers, 9% tax for the use of communication services like calls, SMS, MMS and data usage from telecommunication service providers; internet service providers and Pay TV Stations.

“It is also under this APC government that N65 levy was imposed on every withdrawal on ATM, various bank charges introduced, custom duties increased, increment of VAT from five per cent to 10 per cent contemplated, cost of vehicle plate numbers and drivers licence increased, and now cost of internet subscription is to be increased too.

“Is this government out to tax Nigerians to death?”

While condemning the proposed increment in the cost of data, Governor Fayose said it was strange that the federal government came with the idea less than three weeks after the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed complained about the damage being done to the image of the Buhari’s government by the social media.

“About three weeks ago, Lai Mohammed told Nigerians that social media was the greatest nightmare of the federal government and now, we are being told that federal government has told telecommunication providers to increase the cost of internet subscription. Is this not a way of indirectly restricting Nigerians from using social media?

“They tried to gag Nigerians, using the failed social media bill, now they want to use increment of internet subscription to achieve what they could not achieve with the social media bill last year. Nigerians must say no to this and I am standing with the youths of Nigeria to say no to any increment in the cost of data,” Fayose said.

APC governors will dump Buhari and Tinubu - Primate Elijah Ayodele

Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, in a warning to Nigerian politicians, has raised an alarm that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are likely to lose key personalities this year.
In a no-holds-barred chat with our correspondent, the revered Nigerian prophet noted that the PDP is under a spiritual attack and unless they go for cleansing, they are not likely to be free.
He added that the party will break into two and while the new version of the party will go, “the old will remain. The Makarfi/Sheriff synergy will not work.”
The Spiritual leader of the INRI Evangelistic Spiritual Church thereafter made a very damming prediction of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu floating another party.
“Some APC governors will dump Buhari and Tinubu while some PDP governors will be at crossroads and find it difficult to make certain decisions when it matters most.
“There shall also be unexpected removals from President Buhari’s cabinet members while the SGF will run into crisis with the Chief of Staff. I see a change of affairs in Customs as well,” Primate Ayodele explained further.

Ondo election
The man of God spoke also on the fast-approaching election in Ondo state, stating categorically that the date for the election will be postponed.
He said: “Ondo election will be fierce and the date will be shifted. This is because the aura for that day is not good; it could make the winner to lose and make the person who is supposed to lose emerge as winner of the polls.
Mimiko going to the court to upturn the judgment may boomerang and if he is not strategically positioned, he will cry while leaving the office.”

On recession
Until the federal government declares a three-day prayer and fasting to seek the face of God, we are not likely to get out of the recession the country is presently going through.
I said it before and I am saying this again, that I am not interested in organising it. The government should seek a way of making this work because we need serious prayers to be able to get out of the present state of discomfort in the country.

On fuel scarcity
The people surrounding President Buhari will create problems and he will face internal and external challenges. There shall also be severe fuel scarcity in the country.
Scarcity of petrol is looming again in the country between Decembe

Election wont hold in Ondo without PDP - Dr. Olusegun Mimiko

Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the governor of Ondo State has declared that governorship election will not take place in the state on November 26, 2016 if the issue of the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party was not resolved.

The governor expressed the assurance that the candidate of the Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the party, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), would contest the election.

The governor said this yesterday at the PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the state capital.

He said, “I don’t know how they will do it, it is impossible for them to deny us our right. Justice will stand and Jegede will contest this election. Election can’t take place in Ondo State without the PDP.”

The governor explained that the substitution of name at the Independent National Electoral Commission was a conspiracy because the decision of INEC could not find comfort “in justice, in principle, in law and in morality.”

Mimiko, who noted that redress had been sought by Jegede, the PDP and major stakeholders, assured the party members that justice would be done because the alleged impunity on the matter would not stand.

The governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his action towards good and credible elections in the country by ensuring that justice would be done regarding the Ondo election.

He however debunked insinuations that he went to see Buhari as a prelude to crossing over to the All Progressives Congress.

He explained, “ I had to see the President in my capacity as the Chief Security Officer in Ondo State, briefing the Chief Security Officer of the country on the need to allow justice to prevail, and Mr. President gave his commitment to ensure that justice will be done and I have no reason to doubt him.

“Justice will stand and Jegede will contest the election. Election can’t take place without the PDP.”

We know those that are behind this. It is beyond the President. Their thinking is that without Jegede, they will win but their plan will fail, “ he said.

'We didn't make noise about our anti-corruption fight' - GEJ

Jonathan said he reformed the anti-corruption agencies in the country to enhance their capacity to function effectively.
"We reformed the institutions and introduced various mechanisms to stop the corruption problems in our country without publicity," he said.
He stated this while speaking to students at the Oxford Union of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, on the theme "Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship."
The former president, however, did not expatiate on his anti-corruption fight.
He told the students, who inquired about the anti-corruption war under his government, that he did not want to "interfere with the legal processes" because "several matters are pending in court."

Jonathan, who lost his 2015 re-election bid, is believed to be making reference to the ongoing anti-corruption war under President Muhammadu Buhari, in which arrests and prosecutions of allegedly corrupt persons dominate media contents.
Many, especially the opposition, have criticised Buhari's corruption fight, saying it is vindictive and without regard to the rule of law.

PDP Supports First Lady Aisha Buhari

While some Nigerians have continued to slam Mrs Aisha Buhari, the wife of the president, others are supporting her
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also declared its readiness to register Aisha and give her a membership card

Mrs Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has been offered an opportunity to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after she lampooned the government of her husband as being hijacked by a cabal.
Aisha’s interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has generated a lot of controversies recently. While some have supported her, others have castigated her.
However, the PDP, through its former deputy national publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, said, in a report by the Telegraph, that it was ready to register the wife of the president and give her a membership card.
The report further quoted Jalo as comparing Buhari with America’s Donald Trump over the Nigerian leader’s reaction to his wife’s interview.
Buhari had said his wife belongs to the kitchen among others.

Former First Lady Stands By Women Of Nigeria.

Patience Jonathan, a former First Lady of Nigeria and the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, is one of those who can strongly disagree with President Muhammadu Buhari on his views about women’s place in the society.

Recall that earlier today the president has laughed off his wife’s statement about his plans of re-election in 2019.
During a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel he said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”
However, Dame Jonathan, who is known for her work towards advancing the rights of women and children, called on Nigerian women and girls to stop limiting themselves, go out of the shadow and expand horizons.
In December, 2104 during the Presidential campaign Mrs Jonathan stated: “Nigerian women should no longer go back to the kitchen. It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen.
We have women that are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of Nigeria.”
Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, has hastened to explain the controversial statement of the president .
Reacting to the development Garba Shehu: “My friends, can’t a leader get a sense humour anymore? Mr. President laughed before that statement was made.”
He also stressed that President Buhari respects the place of women in our society and believes in their abilities. Mr Shehu mentioned that one of Nigeria’s most sensitive office today is headed by a woman, Mrs Adeosun.

Interesting !!! Aisha Buhari says she may not support President Buhari 2019,- Buhari replies : Her Place is in the Kitchen

The President’s wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has warned that her support for her husband for 2019 election rest on the her husband’s readiness to shakeup his government.

Aisha Buhari in a BBC Hausa interview monitored in Kano pointed out that Buhari’s government has been hijacked by cabal who are “behind presidential appointments”.

Mrs Buhari said that “he is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again “.

However  President Muhammadu Buhari  responded to the BBC interview with his wife, Aisha, where she questioned his leadership.

Buhari, who left the country on wednesday for a state visit to Germany, reacted to the interview during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The Associated Press reports that he laughed it off and said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room

and the other room.”

He also said that he had much more political experience,  they reported

Aisha Buhari Says She May Not Support Her Husband For A Second Term

The President's wife, Mrs Aisha Buhari has said she may not support her husband's re-election in 2019 unless he retakes control of his government.

According to her, the President's government has been hijacked by a "few people."
Speaking in a BBC interview, she revealed that her husband "does not know" most of the top officials in his government, suggesting that a 'powerful caucus' is behind the presidential appointments.
"The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don't know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years," Aisha Buhari said.
She said people who have been appointed to top positions do not even share the vision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but they got the appointments because of the influence a select few wield.
"Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position," she said.
When asked to mention names of those who have hijacked the Buhari administration, she said: "You will know them if you watch television."
She noted that although the President has not made his 2019 ambition known to her, she will not campaign for him if he decides to run.
"He is yet to tell me but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again," Mrs Buhari vowed.

'Strangers Around Her Husband' Aisha Buhari

The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, in a recent interview  blamed the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on ‘strangers’ around her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari.

She granted the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC),an interview, Aisha said the president is surrounded by people reaping where they did not sow.
Many members of the party believe their contribution towards the president’s victory in the last general elections has not been rewarded, Aisha reportedly told the BBC in an interview that was aired yesterday. “This worries us a lot now, she said.
“Because they believe they are the ones who suffered, but are nowhere today. Those who didn’t do anything who don’t even have voters’ card are the ones in position, doing everything.”
She also quoted as saying: “What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people,” in an allusion to the number of the people who voted the president into power last year.

Lai Mohammed Threatens Legal action over Afe babalola's claim that he plagiarised "change begins with me" Idea.

Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed has refuted claims by Chief Afe Babalola and Akin Fadeyi, that the Federal Government’s national re-orientation campaign, ‘Change Begin with Me’ was a copyright version of drama skits ‘Not In My Country’ initiative.

Mohammed’s reaction came barely seven days after a senior lawyer at the Afe Babalola Chambers, Adebayo Adenipekun, wrote to the President, alleging that the initiative launched to bring attitudinal change in the country, originated from him and was taken from his project: ‘Not In My Country.’ The minister made the explanation after unveiling the national re-orientation campaign to stakeholders in the private sector in Lagos. He noted that the idea behind the national re-orientation was designed and completed two months before he met Fadeyi.

He said: “I was nominated in October and the moment I was nominated, I called my team and I told them that the most important thing was to change the attitude of Nigerians. I am happy that the agencies that worked on the idea are here today. “We started working on the initiative immediately and on 14 October, 2015 when I was confirmed as a minister, I had completed work on the initiative.

I made available to the media, incontrovertible evidence that by October 14th, 2015, I had completed work on the initiative. “On 31 October, 2015, I had completed the radio jingles and television commercials. After we had completed work on the programme, Mr. Akin Fadeyi came to me on December 30th, 2015. So, how can one accuse me of stealing an idea which was completed by October last year? The person, who claimed that I stole his idea came to me in December. Mr. Akin Fadeyi, Afe Babalola and I will meet in court.”

Oshiomole's Legacy was Vital for Obaseki's Victory

Special Assistant to the Edo state Govenor on entertainment Roland Igbadumhe, has said that the unprecedented developmental accomplishment by out-going Gvernor Adams Oshomhole, won the election for All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Godwin Obaseki.

Roland Igbadumhe, aka ‘Youngest old man’ who is also a comedian spoke with newsmen in Benin, andsaid that the good work of APC led-government of Oshiomhole, spoke ‘eloquently’ during the campaign and at the election.

Roland described the eight-year tenure of Governor Oshiomhole as second to none in the South-South geo-political zone. He said: “You can go across the states, from Edo South through Edo Central to Edo North, the rural communities and see for yourself.

The Okpekpe people in Etsako were completely cut off from civilization and so were the people of Igbanke in Edo South before Oshiomhole came in. Those communities can now boast of good roads and even street lights courtesy of Oshiomhole, not to talk of the secondary and primary schools where pupils and students were forced to learn under tress as if they were in the Stone Age before the coming of Oshiomhole. Now, you can see the schools complete with modern facilities comparable to those in the United States.” and Europe. There is no one who will see these accomplishments and see vote for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after their eight years of disaster.”

Buhari Authorised The Sale Of Two Presidential Aircraft

Finally, President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the sale of two presidential aircraft, a Falcon 7x executive jet and Hawker 4000 from the Presidential Air Fleet, PAF.
This was in tune of his 2015 election campaign promises of selling off many of the airplanes to reduce cost if elected as president.
More of the aircraft would also be sold in the coming days.Recall that Controversy had trailed the promise in the past as to whether the president would live up to his words.
Presidency sources confirmed that PAF contains 10 aircrafts which affected the nation’s revenue.

The aircrafts included Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-800 or AirForce One), one Gulfstream 550, one Gulfstream V (Gulfstream 500), two Falcons 7X, one Hawker Sidley 4000, two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters and two AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters.
The presidency yesterday put out some advertorial, announcing the sales.
Reacting afterwards to the authenticity of the advertorials, the Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity to president Buhari, Mallam Grana Shehu said that indeed, the president made the approval for the sale, it was in line with the APC election campaign promises in 2015, stressing that the development would help save more money for the country.
“This is in line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that aircraft in the Presidential air fleet be reduced to cut down on waste.
“When he campaigned to be President, the then APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari, if you recall, promised to look at the presidential air fleet with view to cutting down on waste.
“His directive to a government committee on this assignment is that he liked to see a compact and reliable aircraft for the safe airlift of the President, the Vice President and other government officials that go on special missions.
“This exercise is by no means complete.
“I am sure the Commander of the Presidential air fleet will any time from now, call you to a ceremony at which he will hand over some other aircraft to the Airforce for their operations”, Shehu explained in a statement yesterday.

House of Reps Members share between N10m and N20m every month - Jibrin

A fresh allegation by the suspended former chairman, committee of representatives committee on appropriations, has unsettled lawmakers.

According to The Punch, investigations showed that some members were agitated by the development on Tuesday, October 4, forcing them to discuss it among themselves on the floor.

Jibrin had said on Sunday that members paid themselves up to N20m monthly, an amount that was way beyond their official N1m salary. “Between Sunday and this morning (Tuesday), members were bombarded with calls from people, mainly from their constituencies.

“Some rained abuses on them, while others demanded their share of the money. “They accuse lawmakers of deceiving them that they have no money, but are angry that they allegedly share between N10m and N20m every month,”one senior legislative official informed newsmen. Findings indicated that most members were “alarmed” over Jibrin’s fresh figures as they denied collecting such monthly funds.

A former Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, who could not contain her anger, raised a point of privilege, seeking for the matter to be discussed immediately. Although, Omidiran, a member of the All Progressives Congress from Osun State, did not mention Jibrin’s allegations when she raised her point of order, she made it clear that her privilege had been breached and called for an executive session.

“I am calling for an executive session; let us have an executive session now,” she told the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, after the floor was yielded to her.

But Dogara overruled her on the grounds that the procedure she adopted to call for an executive session was “strange” to the rules of the House. Dogara invited Omidiran to approach the chair to discuss her agitation privately. She reluctantly went to meet Dogara where she was seen gesticulating angrily. One source stated,

“She had been taken to task earlier on social media over the N10m claim by Jibrin. “She is angry because her denial did not convince her followers. That was why she wanted the matter discussed.”
