Nigerian Army Tells Boko Haram Members to surrender or they'll face Serious Consequences

This is to warn all Boko Haram terrorists wherever they are, to desist from all acts of terrorism, surrender themselves and face the law now.

We wish to inform them that we are aware of all their hideouts, camps and enclaves.

They should follow their colleagues who have so far surrendered.

Failure to surrender will result in serious consequences as our troops are fast closing up with them.

We equally appeal to the parents, families and friends of all those involved in Boko Haram terrorists activities to kindly persuade them to desist and renounce their membership of the terrorist organization forthwith.

We also wish to appeal to the good people of the North Eastern part of the country, in particular those of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States to prevail on these terrorists to renounce their evil ways immediately.

You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation.

Senate ready for 50% pay cut

The Senate has agreed to the decision of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to review downward the salaries and allowances of federal lawmakers at the National Assembly by 50 per cent.

This was disclosed yesterday by Senator Umaru Ibrahim Kurfi ( APC Katsina Central) during a chat with senate correspondents.

The Senate had recently rejected the pay cut in their salaries and allowances by suspending consideration of the report of its Finance Committee following sharp disagreements among senior lawmakers over recommendation by the committee.

But Senator Kurfi said the upper chamber of the National Assembly had agreed to the 50 per cent pay cut in line with the policy of President Muhammadu Buhari administration to ensure prudence in public spending and restore dignity to governance in the country.

“The Eighth Senate is doing its best to ensure the success of the present administration. In line with policy of President Muhammadu Buhari to eradicate corruption in all sectors of the economy, we (senators) have already agreed to implement 50 per cent salary cut.

“We are in a change regime and we are ready to key into the zero tolerance for corruption policy of the present administration. Similarly, we have agreed to support all other policies and programmes being embarked upon for the benefit of Nigerians”, Kurfi said

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain assured that the Senate would continue to help the executive arm to build on democracy, implement the change promised Nigerians by the party and ensure that President Buhari surpass the records of his predecessors.

e allayed the fears of some Nigerians that the APC-led federal government would not spread the dividends of democracy across Nigeria, saying the President as a man of integrity would ensure even development of the country.

On the crisis in APC since the party came to power, he said the leadership has not been leaving any stone unturned in keeping the party as one despite “misunderstanding among some leaders over certain issues”.

“We are trying hard to ensure that things take shape in the party. We are not divided, what we have is just misunderstanding among some leaders. Misunderstanding is bound to take place in any large party like the APC and this will be settled”, he assured.

Senator Kurfi expressed hope that democracy would thrive with more development in the country under President Buhari, saying “he is an honest, transparent and Godfearing leader that will make things work again in Nigeria”.

He therefore urged Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion and political party affiliation to rally round the number one citizen to succeed for the benefit of all.

Buhari applauds Britain & Swiss support for recovery & repatriation of stolen funds in Nigeria

Press statement from the presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Abuja applauded the renewed support from Britain and Switzerland for the recovery and repatriation of public funds stolen from Nigeria. At separate audiences with the new British and Swiss Ambassadors, who were at the Presidential Villa to present their letters of credence, President Buhari noted that British, Swiss and other foreign anti-crime agencies had already given his administration much help with relevant information and intelligence on public funds that were stolen and illegally transferred to personal bank accounts by officials of past administrations.

The President called, however, for the speeding up of the processes of investigation, prosecution and repatriation of Nigerian funds stolen by corrupt public officials and their accomplices.

‘Switzerland and Britain have been very helpful indeed in the recovery of our assets. But we must build on what we have started. It is also important to send a signal to the elite that it is no longer business as usual. I personally appreciate the efforts of Prime Minister David Cameron on this issue.  He has honoured his commitments to us. He promised to support our government to build a strong and dynamic economy and he has been faithful to his words,’’ the President told the new British High Commissioner, Mr. Paul Arkwright.

Mr. Arkwright assured him of Britain's preparedness to give Nigeria the fullest possible support and assistance in the recovery of its looted resources.

‘‘We are most ready to help. We have a good team at the National Crime Agency (NCA) working with your Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Tell us where and how we can help and we will provide the assistance,’’ the British High Commissioner assured the President.

President Buhari also welcomed assurances from the new Swiss Ambassador, Mr. Eric Mayoraz that his country will expedite action on the repatriation of millions of dollars stolen by Nigerian public officials and still held in Swiss Banks.

‘‘I am very pleased and we will get our Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work with you to ensure that all the stolen funds are returned safely to government coffers as quickly as possible," the President told the Swiss Ambassador.

President Buhari also received the letters of credence of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Mr. Saleh Fhied Saleh, the Ambassador of Myanmar, Mr. Tha Aung Nyun and the Ambassador of Slovakia, Mr. Peter Holasek.
