Genevieve Nnaji -- I Haven’t Found The Right Man

Newest movie producer in town, Genevieve Nnaji, speaks with CHUX OHAI about her new film and plans for the future

At a time many movie fans in Africa are wondering if she has called it quits with film acting, celebrated actress, Genevieve Nnaji, just announced the arrival of her own movie after what seems like a long hiatus from the lighted screen.

Titled ‘Road to Yesterday’, the movie is produced by the actress – funded straight from her own pocket with additional support from AfricanMagic, as she claims in an interview with our correspondent. But it is written and directed by Ishaya Bako.

Explaining why it has taken her a long time to join the growing ranks of new generation movie producers in the country, Genevieve says, “I chose to be an actress. Acting was what I had always wanted to do. I don’t think that I ever imagined myself producing a film. I love acting.

If the Nigerian movie industry was as stable as it should be, I probably would have been on the set of a movie every day of my life and not be bothered about what goes on behind the camera. So it is a matter of choice and preference.”

Genevieve plays the lead role in ‘Road to Yesterday’ alongside Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel. Chioma Omeruah, Ebele Okaro and Oris Ehuero, among others featured in the movie.

Apart from Majid and Ebele, most of the actors and actresses are not part of the regular Nollywood crowd. Genevieve tells our correspondent that the departure from the ‘old’ crowd is deliberate.

She says, “It is part of our effort to open up Nollywood to more newcomers and to create opportunities for people who are very talented and who have the passion for this job. This is why we have somebody like Ishaya Bako in the team.”

But to the disappointment of those who have for long expected Genevieve to choose a life partner and finally walk down the aisle, marriage does not seem to be in her agenda yet.
Asked when she would finally take the plunge, the actress replies that contrary to speculations, she has not ruled out marriage. But that she would make up her mind as soon as she meets the right person.

“I haven’t found the right man yet. When he comes, I’ll get married,” she says.

Two Nigerian Brothers Top The Uk’s Most Influential Creators On Youtube

The UK’s most influential YouTube creators have been named in a top 10 list produced for the BBC. How do self-made stars like these become famous around the world? And are they taking over from traditional celebrities?
Tubular Labs has created a list of the top 10 most influential UK creators for the BBC.

At the very top is Olajide “JJ” Olatunji, who dropped out of college, but has made $4.5m (£2.9m) in the past year, according to a Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid YouTube stars.

The 22-year-old, from Watford, has more than 10 million subscribers on his KSI YouTube channel and a “social reach” of 17.4 million when other social media platforms are taken into account.

He is best known for filming himself playing computer games while commentating on them, but he also makes comedy videos and more typical vlogs.

His vlogs include one where he decided to dye his hair blond and another in which he filmed himself for a week to give his viewers a chance to see what he does when he’s not posting YouTube videos.

KSI’s brother Deji Olatunji, known as ComedyShortsGamer, is in second place on the list.

His videos appear to concentrate more on comedy than gaming, with one of his most popular being a prank where he told his mother he had made a girl pregnant.

All Airports In Nigeria Will Be Shut Sunday Midnight – Aviation Unions

Airports across the country are to be shut down beginning from Sunday midnight, two leading unions in the sector on Thursday threatened.

The unions vowed to paralyse all activities of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority by midnight on Sunday.

The unions – the National Union of Air Transport Employees and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers – made their position known in a letter dated October 21, 2015.

The National Mirror obtained the letter on Thursday.

The unions accused the NCAA of not adhering to the condition of service with respect to promotion of workers and other welfare issues.

The letter was jointly signed by the Secretary General of NUATE and Secretary General NAAPE, Comrades Olayinka Abioye and Aba Ocheme.

The unions threatened to shut down the NCAA from midnight on Sunday until further notice.

The unions insisted that the withdrawal of service by the workers became paramount in order to safeguard the integrity of NCAA’s condition of service.

The unions noted that the action of the Director-General of the NCAA, Captain Muhtar Usman, was in violation of section 3.4 of condition of service, adding that all efforts to discuss with the management had been futile.

The letter added: “By the copy of this notice, the general public is hereby informed of this development and the implications that all safety regulations activities of the NCAA will be unavailable from that time and date.

“The above notice will remain in force until otherwise directed by the secretariat of our unions.”

The DSS also charged the suspects to a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isolo on Friday and the court ordered the remand of the 45 suspects in Kirikiri prisons in the state.

The DSS, which obtained the remand order on the suspects, told the court that they were arrested in connection with a foiled attack on Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos in September.

The DSS said the suspects were arrested following intelligence report on their alleged plan to attack the estate, which is in a high brow area in the state.

The security operatives told the court that the suspects had volunteered confessional statements, adding that arms were recovered from them.

The DSS urged the court to remand the suspects in prison pending further investigations.

The magistrate, who asked that his name should not be disclosed for security reasons, granted the prayers that the suspects be remanded in prison.

According to the charge filed before the court, the names of the suspects include Abuyi Sheriff, Babagana Ali, Abass Ibrahim, Abubaka Grema, Kabiri Ibrahim, Mustaph Mohammed, Usman Mohammed, Modu Amsami, Isa Agafi, Adamu Jebili and Saja Kamba.

An affidavit presented in court disclosed how a team of the DSS cordoned off the area, intercepted the suspects and carried out the arrests.

However, the DSS could not be reached as it had yet to announce a new spokesperson.

Recently, the DSS disclosed that it had arrested some suspected terrorists in various places in and around Lagos including Kara, Isheri Berger area; Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Alimosho area; Ijora Badia, Apapa area; and Ebute-Meta in Lagos Mainland Local Government Area.

Earlier in the year, two suspected members of Boko Haram were also arrested in the metropolis.

The suspects were apprehended during an operation carried out by men and officers of the Operation Mesa, a joint security outfit comprising members of the armed forces and those of the DSS

The raid had taken place at the Ijora 7-Up area of Lagos, after a tip-off on the activities of a terror network coordinated by Iranians in the city.

The suspects, a Chadian, identified as Aminu, and a Northerner, whose identity could not be ascertained, were arrested after soldiers ransacked a building in the area.

Aminu was said to have concealed some devices suspected to be explosives in boxes, which were stacked in the ceiling of the house. Also recovered alongside the suspected explosives were two AK47 rifles.

The National Security Adviser had also recently issued a security alert on the likelihood of Boko Haram attacking Lagos seaports following concerns expressed by the United States Embassy on the level of insecurity at the country’s seaports.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Enforcement and Intelligence, Mr. Dan Ugo, had on behalf of the Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), signed the alert.

Following the security alert, it was learned that the Nigeria Customs Service had begun the restriction of persons into its various commands and formations in Lagos.

The development had also brought about an increase in the level of security checks at all access points into the ports.

The leadership of the Port Facility Security Officer Forum had also warned its members to increase surveillance on their facilities and reduce the number of people into their premises.

Thousands of lives had been lost to series of attacks by the dreaded terrorist group, especially in the North Eastern part of the country.

The group, which had pledged allegiance to ISIS also claimed several lives in multiple explosions on Friday.
