Security Agencies Have the power of ARREST, reconsider your plan to ground the judiciary - Gen Idada Ikpomwen tells Nigerian Bar .

Ex-Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army Brig. Gen Idada Ikpomnwen (rtd) has asked judicial workers and members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) to reconsider their plans to ground the judiciary to protest the arrest of  judges by the Department of State Service (DSS).

He said this is so that it will not look like the Bar is pursuing shadows instead of substance. “It must be noted that most of the security agencies have the power of arrest, but we expect that they will be making arrest in areas that are in their scale of job.

“It does appear to me that there is still a lot of fluidity with regards to who has what responsibility within the law enforcement family,” he said. General Ikpomnwen who was reacting to the arrest of two Supreme Court justices and five other judges, said even though he agrees with the bar association that he must work in line with the dictates of the rule of law.

“The war they are embarking upon now is on the extreme side and to me, it is like leaving the substance and going for the form. I said this because I do not see any explanation for a judge of any court having N53million in his bedroom. “And I also say this because the Bar has been so silent about the misconduct of some judges in the past. So why this cry now, when you find judges having so much money in their homes?

“I think for whatever anomalies that have been noticed, investigations must go on in the interest of having a sanitized and transparent judiciary. “There should be no mistake about it that we have a lot of good judges but the few bad ones should be dealt with like criminals. Government has to start drawing a line between the role of one agency and the other,“ he said.

However, the former military man advised the federal government to address the matter of job assignments for security agencies to escape replication of jobs which may lead to rivalry.

He said he expects the DSS to engage in security related investigations and not crime related investigations.

Former First Lady Stands By Women Of Nigeria.

Patience Jonathan, a former First Lady of Nigeria and the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, is one of those who can strongly disagree with President Muhammadu Buhari on his views about women’s place in the society.

Recall that earlier today the president has laughed off his wife’s statement about his plans of re-election in 2019.
During a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel he said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”
However, Dame Jonathan, who is known for her work towards advancing the rights of women and children, called on Nigerian women and girls to stop limiting themselves, go out of the shadow and expand horizons.
In December, 2104 during the Presidential campaign Mrs Jonathan stated: “Nigerian women should no longer go back to the kitchen. It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen.
We have women that are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of Nigeria.”
Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, has hastened to explain the controversial statement of the president .
Reacting to the development Garba Shehu: “My friends, can’t a leader get a sense humour anymore? Mr. President laughed before that statement was made.”
He also stressed that President Buhari respects the place of women in our society and believes in their abilities. Mr Shehu mentioned that one of Nigeria’s most sensitive office today is headed by a woman, Mrs Adeosun.

It is up to the others to Judge me, I am the best in the world - Cristiano Ronaldo

"In my head, I am the best player in the world," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "And I am working very hard every day with the ambition to be the strongest. It is then up to others to judge me.

I always want to improve myself. I am very motivated and I believe that is the key behind my success on the pitch."

The three-time- balon d'or winner is enduring a difficult start to the 2016-17 campaign after sustaining a knee problem in the final of Euro 2016, but feels he is nearing top form again after netting five goals in two games for Portugal during the international break.

"I suffered a serious injury [in the final at Euro 2016] and missed two-and-a-half months, but I am feeling well now," he added.

"I am back to my usual best and I am ready to enjoy another spectacular season."

Mrs Buhari deserve commendation because she is actually speaking the minds of not only the party members but Nigerians - Timi Frank

Acting national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has reacted to comments made by the First Lady, Aisha Buhari in a BBC Hausa Interview.

The APC spokesman today, Friday, October 14, 2016, noted that was not meant to discredit the present administration but to sound a note of caution for the betterment of Nigerians and the country at large.

"I think Mrs Buhari deserve commendation because she is actually speaking the minds of not only the party members but Nigerians,"

"What Mrs Buhari has said is not different from what some of us have been saying that it is high time the President shake-up his cabinet and bring in people who understand the manifestoes of the party and could help the party deliver on its change mantra, especially, the economy of the country needs an urgent attention.

"Some of our leaders like the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki have made this same observation in the past and I think they meant well for the administration and the country. I will also join them in appealing to the president to do the needful."

"Nigerian women in politics and other wives of the president in the world have a lot to learn from what Mrs Buhari has done. We should not forget in a hurry that this is what the former first lady Mrs Patience Jonathan failed to do to her husband when few people hijacked his government and brought the government down," he said.

He also called on President Buhari to act fast and correct some of the abnormalities currently threatening the existence of the APC.

Bukola Saraki condemns latest bomb Blast in the North.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, has condemned the bomb blast in Maiduguri as a result of reported clashes between security agents and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise called Shiites in some parts of Kaduna, Kano and Katsina states.

In a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, Saraki commiserated with victims of the unfortunate suicide attack especially at a time the federal government has stepped up efforts aimed at total eradication of the menace of Boko Haram and keeping Nigerians safe from all forms of criminality no matter where they live. While calling on the security agencies to gear up towards foiling such surreptitious attacks by the largely defeated insurgents, he called on Nigerians to be extra vigilant as they go about their daily businesses.

“If this stealthy suicide attack by the insurgents is meant to divert government’s commitment and focus at ensuring absolute peace and security, rehabilitation and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East, then they have clearly failed. “The government shall not waiver in its resolve to restore normalcy in the region even as it will continue operations aimed at routing the last vestiges of these outlaws,” he said. On the clashes between members of the Shiites group and security operatives on the one hand and the attacks on suspected members of the group by some civilians, the Senate president called for restraint on the part of the security agencies while urging Nigerians not to take laws into their hands, notwithstanding the level of provocation.

“The fact remains that the security agencies have the sole duty to enforce laws, protect citizens and maintain law and order. “However, I call on the security agencies to exercise restraint in dealing with internal crisis so as to prevent avoidable loss of lives and property, while all aggrieved persons must of necessity adopt the use of dialogue in resolving their grievances,” he said.
