The Federal Government planned to immunise 41 million children against polio before the end of the year as part of efforts to ensure complete eradication of the virus in Nigeria by 2017, Health Minister Isaac Adewole said.
The minister told newsmen in Maiduguri on Monday that the goal was to ensure that polio was eradicated in Africa by next year.
He said that similar immunisation would take place in neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad , Cameroon and Central African Republic as part of joint effort to ensure the eradication of the virus from
Africa.
He added that “our target is for Africa to be free of polio by 2017.
“We have an elaborate ring fence immunisation that is going to take place not only in Nigeria, but also in Niger, Chad , Cameroon and the Central African Republic.”
He explained that the Federal Government planned to conduct five rounds of immunisation against polio before the end of December.
He said that “in Nigeria, we are planning five rounds of immunisation; we have done one in the immediate area, where we immunised about 800, 000 children.
“We will do another round of four states to 18 states and go back to do another round of 18 states.
“By December, we will have immunised nothing less than 41 million children under five years of age in Nigeria.”
The minister pointed out that the discovery of wild polio virus in Borno was a great setback on the country’s journey toward final eradication of polio, stressing that “we thought that we had overcome polio, un fortunately between July and now, we detected four new cases.
“One case of polio alone is unacceptable, because it is equal to an outbreak.”
He, however, said that the discovery of the virus in the liberated communities from Boko Haram insurgents were was not totally unexpected.
He then commended President Muhammadu Buhari for providing all the support needed in the fight
against polio.
He also commended the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other partners for their support in the anti polio campaign.
He said “we want to thank the WHO, UNICEF and all these organisations for their support and partnership in the fight against polio.”

NJC Bans Judges From Receiving Gifts From Government
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has barred judges and other court staff from accepting gifts from other arms of government.
The ban follows the recent clampdown on judges by the Department of State Service (DSS) over allegations of corruption.
Any form of lobbying of other arms of government by the judiciary or any of its institutions has also been outlawed - the move is aimed at curbing corruption and other unethical conduct among judicial officers.
The measures are part of a new National Judicial Policy (NJP) to be launched in Abuja on Monday, October 23, it was learnt.
According to the existing Code of Conduct for judicial officers, "a judge and members of his/her family shall neither ask for nor accept any gift, bequest, favour, or loan on account of anything done or omitted to be done by him in the discharge of his duties.
"But, the provision in the new policy particularly bars judges and other court staff from accepting gifts from other arms of government, and made compliance mandatory."
Section 2(3)(2) of the new policy states: "The Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers and Code of Conduct for Court Employees, with the amendment discouraging acceptance of gifts from other arms of government, should be such as would be adequate. Compliance with their provisions shall be mandatory.
"All arms of government should respect the doctrine of Separation of Powers as enshrined in the Constitution."
Section 2(2)(4) to 2(2)(9) of the new policy also provides that complaint against judges and other court staff be kept from the media and public domain.
It states further: "It shall be the policy of the judiciary on complaints of misconduct against judicial officers or employees of the judiciary shall not be leaked or published in the media.
"Where complaints on allegations against judicial officers and court employees are submitted for investigation, the complainant or complainants shall be made to give an undertaking not to do anything to prejudice investigation or actions that may be taken.
"The institutions of the judiciary concerned with investigation or/and implementation of decisions taken on such complaints shall be obliged to cease further action where such complaints are leaked or discussed in the media.
"Where such a leakage is occasioned after the submission of a complaint, then all investigations on the complaints shall be suspended, the leakage investigated and if such leakage is from the complainant or through other parties known to such a complainant, such a complaint should be discarded.
"Where such leakage is occasioned prior to the presentation of the complaint and the source of the leakage is found to be the complainant or through other parties known to and connected with the complainant, then such complaint shall not be accepted, upon submission, by the appropriate disciplinary body.
"On conclusion of investiga-tion, the disciplinary bodies may allow public disclosure of their findings, subject to following the proper channels."

Paul Pogba is the best Mid-Fielder in the world – Jose Mourinho
As we all Know the self Acclaimed ‘Special one’ Jose Mourinho will always keep the media interesting anywhere he is.
Jose mourinho is back again this time he is claiming his New Signing at Manchester United ‘Paul Pogba’ (Who has proofed himself in the previous seasons to be one of those young player to look out to) is the best midfielder in the world, don’t forget when he was at Real Madrid There will be no other Ronaldo which he latter Denied at Chelsea Eden Hazard is at the same level with The world Best Players ‘Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’ Even without scoring half of the goals these two players Scores in a season,Now He is Saying ‘Paul pogba is the best MidFielder in the world.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Paul Pogba is the world’s best midfielder, but does not expect the France international to produce fireworks every week.
Pogba, 23, became the most expensive footballer of all time when moving to United from Serie A champions Juventus for £93.8m earlier this month.
All eyes will be on Pogba, who left United to join Juventus in 2012 before returning this summer, when he makes his second Premier League debut for the Red Devils against Southampton on Friday.
However, while big things are expected from Pogba following his world record transfer, Mourinho insists he does not believe a huge amount of goals should be one of them.
“Can Paul score Ronaldo and Messi’s goals?” Mourinho said. “Not even 25 per cent, I believe. I believe he cannot score 20 goals in a season.
“So if to be the best player in the world means to score a lot of goals, that’s not the point. But he’s one of the best midfield players, maybe I could say the best midfield player, in the world.
“I’m not worried with an ‘impact’ and I don’t think he’s worried with that. I see him very calm, I see him very comfortable in this role of a star player and feeling very well under that skin.
“I don’t see him under pressure, I don’t see him in training trying to do things to show that he’s different, to show that he’s better.
“I think his impact will be something very natural, a progressive impact of contribution to improve the team, because that’s what he’s here for – to win trophies.
“I’m not expecting, the first time he touches the ball, to dribble past five guys and score a wonder goal. I expect the first time he touches the ball to make a correct pass, a good selection of passing, a good choice, a good simple execution and a fluid game.
Mourinho added: “So, maybe it’s not an impact, maybe just a natural improvement of the team, because he’s a super football player.
“When you speak about the best players in the world, you go immediately to the ones that score a lot of goals.
“You don’t give a golden ball [Ballon d’Or] to a goalkeeper. You gave it to [defender Fabio] Cannavaro once, because in that season he was the captain of Italy, the world champions.
“[Paolo] Maldini never got a gold ball. [Javier] Zanetti never got a gold ball. Top goalkeepers, over history, didn’t get a gold ball. You look immediately to the ones that score a lot of goals.”
'IT'S HUMILIATING' - MOURINHO SLAMS CONTE FOR CHELSEA CELEBRATIONS
The Portuguese criticised his opposite number's antics on the touchline as they embraced following Chelsea's 4-0 win over the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Jose Mourinho reportedly slammed Antonio Conte for humiliating him on the touchline during Manchester United's 4-0 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday.
Goals from Pedro, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante done the damage as Mourinho lost on his return to his former club at Stamford Bridge.
Conte was his typical exuberant self as Chelsea destroyed Mourinho's men to record their third straight Premier League win, celebrating Kante's strike wildly in the dugout area in particular.
And as Mourinho and Conte embraced at the end of the match, the former appeared to criticise his opposite number's antics as the fourth goal went in.
"Don't do that [celebrate] at 4-0. 1-0 okay, but 4-0 is humiliating,” Mourinho was filmed saying in Conte's ear.
When asked what he told Conte at the end of the affair by Sky Sports , Mourinho refused to comment.
