Hotelier who forces girls into prostitution arrested in Lagos

A hotelier, Victor Obano has been arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly forcing girls into prostitution.
The suspect reportedly visited states like Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Edo to deceive young women with a promise of a job.
They eventually end up being prostitutes who pay a sum of N2,500 a day to use rooms at the man's hotel.
Obano got into trouble after he seized the phone of a prostitute who had refused to work.
A report was made by the girl's aunt which led to his arrest.
The hotelier claimed in a statement following his arrest that he received the consent of the girl's father before bringing her to Lagos.
“I met the lady three months ago through a friend, when I traveled to Calabar for a friend’s burial, that she had problem taking care of her two children.
“She begged me to bring her to Lagos so that she could work and take care of them. But before bringing her, I went to see her father who also consented to her coming.
“Before we left Calabar for Lagos, I told her what she would be doing when we get to Lagos and she agreed. The first money she made, she sent it back home for the upkeep of her children, but suddenly she was not concentrating on the hustling anymore.
“She started going out with some boys in my area which annoyed me and I seized her phone.
“I was in my hotel on Wednesday when policemen came and arrested me for trafficking girls and also forcing them into prostitution.
“Some of the ladies in my hotel came through their friends to work; nobody is forcing them into what they are doing. They pay N2, 500 daily for each room they use.
“What I am after is money; whenever the girls come I always provide them accommodation. I don’t chase them away.”
Lagos State police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni has advised parents to be diligent concerning exploiters who lure their children into unseemly trade.

Iyanya Regrets Not Getting Married Before Becoming Famous

The ‘kukere’ singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, who just clocked 30 on Monday, has revealed one of his regrets in life as not being married before becoming famous.

The 30-year-old singer, who just signed a new record deal with Mavin records, stated this in an interview with The Net.

When asked why he has no baby mama, or married, like his colleagues in the industry, he said: “‘I’ll be honest, it’s not very easy, If I had my way, I would have been married a long time ago by now people will be seeing my kids.

“It’s not very easy trying to get this music right and then adding marriage to it.

“The truth is even though people think I have that bad boy reputation, I respect marriage a lot, I don’t believe I should get married and get out of it, so I’m not trying to rush into something I’ll rush out of.”

Iyanya said that it is not easy to just date any girl now because their real intention would be in doubt.

“It’s hard to get a girl. If you say you want a girl from the church, you’ll carry devil, if you say you want a dancer, you’ll carry trouble.

“I’m just trying to be patient and take my time and it’s even harder now that I’m famous because it’s really hard to find someone that truly cares for you when you are famous.

“I think this is one of the things I regret, I should have married someone way back when my mum was still alive. Back then my mum was always on my neck to settle down and at the time I always wondered why but now I see it. I’m not giving up though, I just want to make sure I get this music right.

“I’m 30 and I’ve not seen in the bible or any church that’ll say I can’t come to church because I’m 30 and not married,” he quipped.

Skye Bank Sacks 50 Employees Amidst Recession

There are indications that about 50 staff members of Skye Bank and staff in outsource, as well as auxiliary functions, have been sacked by the bank.
The sack is coming on the heels of the economic woes of Nigeria which has led to an unfavourable ground for business growth and development.
Although the numbers of the affected non-core staff were not stated since they are not direct employees of the bank, the reasons for the exit as gathered ranged from performance, disciplinary issues as well as right sizing.
Most of the affected are Staff in Outsourced Functions (SOF) comprising Tellers, Drivers and Internal security guards.
The Management of the Bank it was learnt had also approved payment of generous entitlement and severance packages to those affected as contained in their engagement letter and as agreed with the workers union.
The bank thanked the affected staff and expressed its appreciation for their work while in the employment of the organisation.
It would be recalled that part of the mandate of Skye Bank’s re-constituted Board is to run a lean and efficient organisation, control cost, aggressively recover debts owed by debtors and grow deposit liabilities and shore the liquidity position of the Bank.

Ambode is doing very well - PDP

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has lauded what it termed the outstanding performance of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The spokesman for the opposition PDP chapter, Taofik Gani, said in a statement on Monday, that Ambode had taken government’s presence to many areas in the state allegedly abandoned for eight years by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola.

The PDP advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of Fashola, who, it said, had a penchant for making unverifiable claims of achievements.

The opposition party also expressed reservation over Buhari’s decision to give three ministerial portfolios relating to engineering to Fashola, who is a lawyer.
The PDP berated Fashola for celebrating a proposed injection of 30 megawatts into the national grid, when, according to the PDP, the minister had been provided with resources enough to inject over 500 megawatts into it.

Gani said instead of celebrating, Fashola should have been sober for allegedly mismanaging the country’s power generation from “6000MW when he took over to now less than 2000MW.”

He said, “We sincerely advise President Buhari to be very wary of the deceptive skills of Fashola who will usually hype and celebrate even mediocrity.

“Fashola has a penchant for misrepresenting facts of his achievements in government and would always rationalise obvious inadequacies.”

“As governor of Lagos State, he enjoyed unprecedented revenues and donations, yet he left many services untouched or unfinished. He, however, deliberately funded his pro-Fashola media and commentators so much that pseudo and exaggerated achievements were ascribed to him.

“He employed this model to promote his eight years government of mediocrity. Fashola ended up making Lagos State the biggest debtor with local and foreign debts well over N1trn.”

Abuja Indigenes cry out over Presidential snub for Ambassadorial positions

Following the non-inclusion of an indigene of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the ambassadorial nomination list, the indigenes have appealed to both President Muhammadu Buhari and the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, to forgive them if they have committed any offence that has deprived them of a place in government.

President of Abuja Original Inhabitant Youth Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO), Commandant Isaac David, who briefed the press on behalf of the indigenes, lamented that since the beginning of the present administration, it seems that the government has forgotten indigenes of the FCT.

David said that the indigenes are presently experiencing the opposite of the promise made to them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the presidential campaign, that they will be carried along and given ministerial slot and other political appointments if President Buhari is voted into office.

According to the indigenes, the present administration has not kept its promises and has refused to include them in its government through ministerial slot and the recent submission of ambassadorial nominees without the inclusion of any FCT indigene.
“We are appealing to President Buhari and the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello that if the stakeholders and political leaders of the FCT have offended them, they should forgive them and carry us along in this government. We want to be part of this government, because we are sincerely in support of it.

“We voted for President Buhari and also voted for the APC in all the FCT area councils, so we deserve to be part of this government and contribute directly to the development of our people and the entire nation. Since the beginning of this administration, no national political office has been given to any indigene and we have qualified people that can occupy any political office in Nigeria,” David said.

The natives also stressed that President Buhari is also directly the governor of the FCT and it would be wise, if he gives the indigenes their rightful place in the affairs of governance, so that they can give their useful contribution to the benefit of national development.
