Nigerian Youths send a message to Donald Trump

Niger Delta youths have congratulated Donald Trump over his victory at the presidential election in the United States, asking him to come to the aide of the region.

The groups known as the Niger Delta Youth Forum and the the Niger Delta Izon Youth Forum, in a statement signed by Mr Kemeizonpoumokumor Ayuba, said the people of the region were trusting Trump’s government to prevail on the Nigerian government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to enable them enjoy their God-given resources.

They demanded for a true restructuring of the country and ownership of their resources, according to The Punch. Meanwhile, the youth wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra has congratulated Trump, on his electoral victory.

The group’s statement in Awka, Anambra state was signed by the IPOB publicity secretary, Emma Powerful and it urged Trump to fulfill his campaign promises to Americans and the world.

“The IPOB under the command structure of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu congratulates Donald Trump.  “Trump passed through so many trials and so many odds from the leadership of the party but God Almighty made it possible for him to become the President of United States of America.

“He should also remember his promises to the people of America and other peoples across the globe because USA is going to be great again by the power of God Almighty who selected him from the midst of millions in America,”

Lagosians spend more than 2 billion naira on food everyday.

Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, on Thursday said every day, food consumption in the state gulps over N3 billion.
Ambode said this at the maiden edition of the Lagos food security and exhibition summit.

He said his administration remained committed to achieving food security, and assured investors willing to do business in the agric sector that there is a ready market.
“Our core policy thrust towards achieving food security is to maximize the comparative advantage of the state in agriculture and establish partnerships with other states of the federation with comparative advantage in specific areas.”
Ambode said his administration had sealed a “landmark” partnership with the Kebbi state government for the development of agricultural commodities.
He added that the state decided to take its investment in the agricultural sector beyond its borders.
“We have also acquired agricultural land in other neighbouring states of Ogun and Oyo as well as Abuja,” he said.
“Specifically, 500 hectares of farm land has been acquired for rice cultivation in Eggua, Ogun State, 84.7 hectares at Okinni in Oshogbo for oil palm processing, among others.”
He said the summit was organised to bring together stakeholders in the agricultural sector to proffer solutions to the challenges militating against the achievement of food security.
Ambode added that in the wake of the economic challenges facing the country, there was no better time for the nation to review its approach and the redirection of its energies to food production.
“Behind every dark cloud, they say, is a silver lining. One of the challenges the current economic recession has brought to the fore is the urgent need to develop a sustainable programme that will guarantee food security for our people,” he said.
“As a nation, in the past, we spent billions of foreign exchange on importation of food and food items many of which can be cultivated in our country.
“Our country is blessed with very good arable land and a climate that supports food production. We can achieve food security and create employment opportunities for our teeming youth if we put in place the right policies and incentives that will attract significant investment into the Agricultural sector.”

Suarez is a great player but Messi is the best - Diego Forlan

Uruguay legend Diego Forlan says that Lionel Messi remains Barcelona's most important player, arguing that, while his compatriot Luis Suarez is "great", the Argentine is still "the best" in the world.

Suarez has gone from strength to strength since joining the Catalan club from Liverpool in 2014, playing a key role in last year's treble triumph before then firing Luis Enrique's men to another league title with a staggering 14 goals in the final five rounds of 2015-16.

In total, the striker scored 40 times in Spain's top flight last term, a feat which saw him become the first man other than Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi to win the European Golden Shoe outright since Forlan in 2009.

However, the 37-year-old striker says that Messi, who has netted more goals than anyone else in 2016, remains the game's greatest talent and when it came to naming his top three players in the world ahead of the publication of this year's Goal 50, Forlan replied: "Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. Luis is a great player but I think Messi is the best.

President Buhari shunned the APC rally held in Ondo state, and here's why ..

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice president Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday, November 10, surprisingly shunned the flag off of the 2016 governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state.

It was gathered that officials of the campaign kept informing the crowd, who thronged the Democracy Park in Akure, that Buhari and Osinbajo were on their way; but as time went on, it was soon clear that they would not be coming. Speaking to newsmen after the event, Abayomi Adesanya, the publicity secretary of the party in Ondo state, said President Buhari and Vice president Osinbajo encountered an emergency situation that they needed to attend to on Thursday, which led to their absence at the rally. He said: “The President and the Vice President had an emergency state matter they had to attend to and so could not turn up"

However, Adesanya said President Buhari would be in Ondo state for the grand finale of the campaign, scheduled tentatively for November 19. Other notable absentees at the event were Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the APC, Senate President Olubukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state and Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state was the only South-West APC governor present at the event. Senator Ajayi Boroffice and Dr Olusegun Abraham, who is contesting the outcome of the governorship primaries with Akeredolu, also shunned the event.

It was gathered that the absence of key chieftains of the party may be connected with the crisis trailing the emergence of Akeredolu as the candidate of the party. The crisis, which has divided the party from the national level to the state chapter, started after Asiwaju Tinubu asked Odigie-Oyegun to resign for undemocratically “imposing” Akeredolu over other 24 aspirants. Tinubu had preferred Dr Olusegun Abraham to emerge as the candidate but he came second. Abraham has dragged Akeredolu before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Some of the aggrieved governorship aspirants have refused to support Akeredolu following the manner the NEC of the party allegedly “imposed” him despite the order for fresh primaries by the appeal panel on the ground that delegate list was padded.

Trump can’t bite, Nigerian Muslims react

Early Wednesday when the news filtered in that 70-year-old Republican candidate, Donald Trump who made fiery anti-Islamic rhetoric a key part of his campaign has emerged the 45th American President elect, to succeed Mu- Barrak Obama, some Muslims across the country expressed shock, apprehensive of what would become the fate of their love ones, friends and relatives who are Muslims. But many others dismissed the fear saying Trump can’t carry out his threat adding that Trump’s bite was not a potent as his bark.
Opinion polls before Election day had given Clinton a slim lead, but the stunning result came in early Wednesday to give victory to Trump, thereby setting the stage for a drastic reordering of politics in United States.
With Trump as President of the world’s greatest power, many Muslims world-over are perturbed by his homophobic and xenophobic remarks during his campaign recently.
Last year December, Trump made a scathing remark about Islam, sparking anger among the world’s 1.5 billion followers of Islam when he called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States after a mass shooting in California, saying he would kick out Muslims from America.
About 30 percent of Nigerians in America are Muslims.
Some Muslims who spoke to Facing the Kaaba on Wednesday when Trump defeated Hillary Clinton said: “I can’t believe Americans would vote this man who was not paying tax and without remorse said he was smart for evading tax. I cant believe this! It’s shocking!,” said AbdulHameed Olawale, a Muslim and Lagos based IT expert. But I want to see how he will carry out his threat because America like any other great country is an institution. One man cannot dictate for the whole of America,” he stated.
Another Muslim cleric who does not want his name in print called Facing the Kaaba from Abuja saying: “It is horrifying. Somebody talking about World Peace lost the election to somebody talking about war with Muslims. Somebody who is peaceful and accommodating lost the election to somebody with xenophobic policy.
Somebody who is more patriotic lost to somebody who is not paying tax. It is a surprise win. It is disturbing, but I know Allah knows why he won. Almighty Allah gives and takes power. I want to see how he will chase out Muslims from his country. Mallam Haroon, Let’s see how event will unfold,” he said.
“Yes I may be nervous but Allah gives power and He takes it at will. My take on whatever Trump intends to do is in Quran 99: 7-8 “Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, shall see it! And anyone who has done an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it.”
Another Muslim, Ustaz AbdulWaheed Olowo said: “Right now, I want to see how Trump will work his talk on Muslims. He will first have to flush out all American Muslims though a minority out of America. We will then see what the reaction of other world leaders when he bans other Muslims from all over the world from entering US. I want to believe it is just a mere political statement meant only to win votes, it is a difficult thing to do. Besides, no leader worth his position will do anything to provoke a war, hatred and anger of people. But if he does it, we will all see the end result. So, I think those campaign talks would not be translated into tough xenophobic policies.”
The Quran says: “Say: “O Allah! Lord of Power (And Rule), Thou givest power to whom Thou pleasest, and Thou strippest off power from whom Thou pleasest: Thou enduest with honour whom Thou pleasest, and Thou bringest low whom Thou pleasest: In Thy hand is all good. Verily, over all things Thou hast power..”
However, if this growing nervousness is based on the fact that tough anti-Islamic policies under Trump presidency could provoke more anger and breed violence, then global peace and world economic development is under threat if the US President elect make good his election promise.
