EFL Cup!! Manchester United 4-1 West Ham (RESULT)

Manchester United eased into the EFL Cup semi-finals as they beat West Ham with manager Jose Mourinho watching from the Old Trafford stands.

The Portuguese, given a one-match touchline ban before the match, stayed out of view as United reached the last four for the first time since 2013-14.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic clipped in the opening goal inside two minutes before former United youngster Ashley Fletcher equalised as he pounced on David de Gea’s error.

Martial re-established the home side’s lead shortly after half-time, drilling Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s pass low into the bottom corner.

The France international stroked in Antonio Valencia’s low cross after a well-worked team move, with Ibrahimovic adding the gloss by tapping in with virtually the last kick of the game.

Wherever United manager Mourinho was – likely to be inside his office – he will have been pleased with his side’s fluent attacking display, and even happy enough to bring substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger on for his first game since March.

EFL Cup!! Arsenal 0-2 Southampton (RESULT)

Southampton progressed to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup for the first time since 1987 thanks to a convincing victory over a below-par and under-strength Arsenal.

Goals from Jordy Clasie – his first for the club – and Ryan Bertrand secured victory for a Southampton side which inflicted a first defeat on the Gunners since the opening day of the season.

Manager Arsene Wenger, who has never won this competition during his 20-year reign in north London, had made 10 changes to the team which beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the Premier League at the weekend and paid the price.

In Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi and Mohamed Elneny, the Gunners had Premier Leaguev regulars in their starting line-up but without Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil the Gunners lacked guile and bite.

Southampton, who had only won once in their last 23 visits to Arsenal, deserved the victory and join Liverpool and Hull in the last four.

Guess the content!!! Vector writes open letter to the Federal Government

This open letter was written to the Federal Government by rapper Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, ‘Vector’, in protest of the planned data rate hike enforced by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) . Read below

Dear Federal Government,

You have come a long way with your policies and rule. You have concerned yourself with nothing but the present hence making it look like the constitution has to be remixed and renamed “Your WILL” before your demise. You have ignored the children you saw grow and focused on the ones from your sperm cells and ovulation that you aren’t seeing grow because they have been shipped off to “better grounds” for eductaion. You have put your wives in other rooms BUT that of improtance forgetting (if you married a good woman) they balance you when you go astray. You have failed to embrace the spirit and letter of the Almighty you worship be it any religion. You have failed the man you see in d mirror because he isnt a beast or metaphysical beign you don’t understand. No, He is the posterboy/girl for greed. You have forgotten how you felt when you were coming up but remember this… you will not forget how you fall. Your money… my bad… our money you take will shame you when you need it the most. The hustling are finding ways to be better but you just want to take from them without giving back. You focus on chasing thieves but never focus on securing the vault they steal from. In the history of our existence as a generation, we have never gotten levelled platforms to play as we have gotten with the internet. The people have become more exposed to business ideas, global news, information sharing from continent to continent between seconds. Industry has gotten global awareness because of this.

Music has started to look better just because with data you can put up your craft be it music or painting or write ups or poems or comedy or pets or life to make people happy in a steady sinking world of frustrating conflicting governance and hustle.

You concern yourself with your percieved negatives over the objective positives. You are killing the future of Nigeria. You are killing the future of Nigeria. Internet is almost free in a lot of “advanced” countries too. Be careful Nigeria… don’t ruin yourself. DON’T!!!

Why NCC Directed Telecom Companies to Increase Data Tariffs – Official

This is an unofficial explanation about the unprecedented increment in the prices of data services as directed by the Federal Government.

An official of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given reason behind the directive to the five big telecoms operators in the country to increase their data tariffs from Thursday, December 1, 2016, according to the DailyTrust.

The reason is reportedly in order to allow small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably.

The NCC official who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday said the regulator came up with the new data regime after some new entrants into the market complained that there was no way they could break even if they operated on same data regime with the likes of MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel.

He said NCC yielded to their pressure when last month it notified the operators of the new rate.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government not to increase the cost of data to avoid further pressure on mobile telephone users.

England appoint former defender as coach

Former English defender, Gareth Southgate has been appointed England national team coach on a four-year contract reportedly worth up to £2m a year.

‘I am extremely proud to be appointed England manager. However, I am also conscious getting the job is one thing, now I want to do the job successfully,’ Southgate said on his appointment.

As interim manager, Southgate won his first game in charge; 2–0 against Malta. He went on to guide England to a goalless draw with Slovenia, then defeated Scotland 3–0 and drew 2–2 with Spain.

The 46-year-old, who made 57 appearances for England as a player, was promoted from his role as England U-21s manager in September following Sam Allardyce‘s sack after only 67 days and one match played.

His only match in charge of the Three Lions was a slim 1-0 away at Slovakia at the start of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

On June 27, Roy Hodgson resigned from the managerial post after Iceland knocked England out of Euro 2016 – which was won by a Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal.

NCC SUSPENDS ACTIONS TO INCREASE DATA PRICE

Moment after Nigerians react to the increase in data plans, NCC has hereby suspend her actions on the increase of data price.

The Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday announced the immediate suspension of the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators.

The new rate, which would have led to price increase in data for some Nigerians, was scheduled to take effect from December 1.

The NCC said the decision is to allow for further consultation.

The NCC’s decision comes a few hours after the Senate ordered a stop to the planned increase.

Speaking on his exposure to the Nigerian culture, the "Birth of a Nation" actor said, "One thing I have realized recently is that a Nigerian house is a Nigerian house. whether you're in Lagos or in a village in Onitsha where I am from, every home is the same."
"They feel the same, they look the same, the food is the same, the pictures on the wall is the same. The answer is I grew up in Lagos even though I grew up in London," Okonkwo added.
Advising upcoming actors, the filmmaker said, "a few things. First of all, perseverance is important. If I know anything about Nigerian people, it's that we persevere."
"You're gonna find that they are many more Nos than yeses. You have to just keep going because you know in your heart that the yes is there."
"The community is important. When I moved to Los Angeles, I had friends who were from the UK, who worked the same part as I did. And then I also had peers, people I looked up to, like David Oyelowo, who is Nigerian and British like me. It was important that I was able to connect with those people."

Actress Advice On Relationship

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh-Churchill has shared a bit of her wisdom on relationship matters - and she is spot on.
The actress advices, among other things, that people need to stop wasting their time chasing the wrong people, and that once a mistake is made [in a relationship], repeating that same mistake makes it a matter of choice and more error.
She gives her opinion on some relationship issues when she said,
“I'm not sure why but we all do it. Many beings waste years of their lives, chasing after people they can't have, or lifestyles that aren't sustainable, for reasons we don't know.
“You can't have a person, either they will f*ck with you, or they won't. Nobody is out of your league, they just don't want you in their life.
“We are all human so we all make mistakes, but a mistake made twice is a choice. Try not to seek the best looking, or those with the most money, for these are superficial ideas and money doesn't make you happy.

“You make you happy, so if you are in a situation with a person and you have the freedom to choose, but you are unhappy, this is your fault not theirs.
“Stop wasting your time. Leave the situation. You should be looking for someone who shares sympathetic vibrations. Someone who is on your wavelength, someone who can share the same frequency as you.
“Everything is a vibration, positive or negative. All elements are made up of atoms. And these are made up of a nucleus, protons (positive), neutrons (no charge) and electrons (negative).
“Opposites attract but if someone is in a negative space, you being in a positive space, isn't necessarily going to help them and vice versa.
“You choose your own happiness, as you can choose the people you are around. (Obviously free from war, famine, poverty, drought, oppressive systems of government/religious opinions, disease etc) If you aren't happy within yourself, you can't be truly happy around others.
“Health is not just physical. I think this is why people Who know me love me, because I am happy and I love people.
“Don't chase waterfalls, on the surface they appear beautiful, but they are usually hiding rocks that will kill you”
Tonto Dikeh is married to Oladunni Churchill with whom she just celebrated her first wedding anniversary on August 29, 2016.
The actress also recently got a 2017 Lexus car from her husband . They are blessed with a son, Omodayo Churchill.

Nigerians React To Proposed Hike In Cost Of Data

Some ICT stakeholders have expressed mixed reaction to the proposed increase in the cost of data by some telecommunication operators from Dec. 1, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

NAN recalls that some telecommunication companies have been sending out messages to subscribers that they will increase data rate from Dec. 1, in line with the Nigeria Communications Commission’s order.

Mr Olusola Teniola, the President Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) said that with the increase, other telecom companies would jerk up their prices, which would adversely affect subscribers.

He said that operators would also increase the cost of megabytes, which consumers could not afford at this time of economic recession.

“So what we are saying at ATCON is that no taxes should be applied in this industry and if there any taxes, it should also include other sectors.

“Already, the cost of data will go up in December and subscribers will not be getting as much data as they paid for,’’ he said.

Mr Edwin Okolo, a computer scientist said that the increase in the cost of data “is uncalled for’’, adding that there should be other avenues for government to make money.

“What we are saying is that we want every Nigerian to be linked with the internet and you are planning to increase the cost of data, so it is no longer for the poor,’’ he said.

However, Mr Adede Williams, the National President of Telecommunications Professionals of Nigeria sought the understanding of subscribers in the proposed increase.

Williams said that some stakeholders in the telecom sector were soliciting the understanding of the subscribers in the increase.

“We the stakeholders are appealing to the subscriber to have a little understanding for to have effective service delivery.

“If you check out the tariff, it is just a slight difference from what we use to have, so that is the true position of things now.

“Some of the subscribers have been informed before now of the tariff increase.

“I know it is not easy but it is just because of the trend of what is happening in the country,’’ he said. (NAN)

10 Categories Of People That May Not Afford To Browse When Data Rates Increases

Despite the quagmire state of the nation, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has chosen to add to our problems by mandating local service providers to increase their data rates for irrelevant reasons, starting from the 1st of December.

Without deceiving ourselves, this directive from NCC will be unfavorable to subscribers as many may denied frequent internet access. Without wasting time, the following people may no longer have access to the internet when data rates increases.

1. Broke guys

Recession has turned many financially buoyant guys to become broke that they can’t even boast of two square meal let alone subscribe for a full month data plan. Many will agree with me that NCC will only be compounding these people’s problems because they will have to borrow phones from their enemies just to check their Bet9ja tickets.

2. Whatsapp subscribers

The whatsapp subscribers are so economical that they can manage 10MB for a whole year without getting exhausted. By the time 20MB monthly whatsapp plan is reduced to 2MB per month, these people will only switch on their data once in every 23 hours just reply the pending whatsapp messages

3. Facebook subscribers

Once data rates increases, monitoring spirits on facebook will drastically reduce as guy will not be able to ass-lick ladies on social media. In fact, they will only view ladies profile pictures on Facebook and will not be able to comment since they will be managing their weekly data plans which might be reduced to from 25MB to 10MB

4. Stingy/Greedy people

These are the people that have money yet stingy to themselves. Even if they’re being offered 50GB for N1, 000, they will still wail and complain that they deserve more. These people are likely to use their money to gulp beer and devour nkwobi when data rate is Increased as they see it as waste of money.

5. Night crawlers

These are the people that can’t browse during the daytime but will have to wait till 12am so that they can subscribe for N25 night browsing just to dowload from naijauncut and xvideos. I believe it’s cruelty if service providers increase data rates and cease night browsing plans because these people will no longer have any hope of surfing the net even at midnight

6. Cheap phones users

Some people are using cheap phones that can’t even subscribe Airtel 3GB monthly plan. When data rates is increased, they may choose not to subscribe again their monthly data plan can even buy their phones.

7. Those who relay on people for data sharing

Those who rely on people to share data with them will be put to shame because, increase in data rates will make those who share data with them to become stingy. These people will become wailers and will begin to rain curses on Buhari and NCC

8. Ladies who rely on men for subscription

I know that thing will soon go worse that most guys will not be able to subscribe for themselves let one subscribe for ladies. Therefore, ladies will be willing to trade their virginity for data subscription so that they can have access to Facebook and whatsapp. The ones who can’t do this will be stranded as life will become boring to them.

9. Data resell scammers

Those who spam social media with ridiculously cheap data plans may not be able to even subscribe let alone spam websites in a bid to scam people.

10. Thugs/Derailers

I have already predicted that increase in data rates will bring about peace on social media as hooligans, bashers and derailers will not be able to subscribe let alone bash people on social media. This implies that only the rich will be found on social media.

100% price increase in data plans across all network for Nigerians from December 1st

GSM Subscribers across the country would pay more for data with effect from December 1, 2016.

According to the PUNCH, the telecoms companies declined to speak on the matter, top management workers across the networks confirmed the story to our correspondent, saying that the directive was from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior management employee of Etisalat Nigeria said, “The NCC issued the directive late last week on the orders of the Federal Government. We have not announced it yet because most of the major telcos have been meeting the NCC on how to reverse this policy, because it will be too harsh for Nigerians.

“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.

“The government might have also taken the decision given that Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax, whose bill is currently in the National Assembly.”

Pleading not to be mentioned, an employee of MTN said, “What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat And Globacom will increase their data rates as from December 1, 2016. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will now be increased to N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 Megabytes.”

In text messages sent out to its subscribers, MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunications giant, confirmed that it had agreed to implement the directive of the NCC.

The MTN text read, “Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st of December, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC for operators. Thank you.”

A representative of the commission said that the telecoms regulator was unaware of such plans by the operators, even as she said her bosses had claimed ignorance of the circulated message.

“We are unaware of it. I just asked my bosses; they are unaware. We will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention,” she said over the telephone.

However, in a letter by the NCC to the operators sighted by our correspondent, the commission stated, “This rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost-based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria.

“In order to provide a level playing field for all operators in the industry, small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably, small operators and new entrants are hereby exempted from the price floor for data services.”

It added, “For the avoidance of doubt a small operator is one that has less than 7.5 per cent market share and a new entrant is an operator that has operated less than three years in the market.

“All operators are to ensure that subscribers are not automatically migrated to pay-as-you-go platform.

“Also, note that effective date for the interim price floor is December 1, 2016.”

Reacting to the development, the President, National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, said that the NCC representative was being economical with the truth.

He said that for MTN to have sent out millions of text messages to its subscribers “clearly shows that the NCC indeed issued the directive.”

Ogunbanjo, however, said that the association would resist the tariff hike, adding, “We will challenge it in court. We are going right away to set the machinery in motion. We are also going to do an urgent letter to the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, which we will drop in his e-mail box.

“Unfortunately, the notice is short; today is November 28, yet the order will take effect from December 1. It is not just good for broadband penetration, whatever the reason may be. It is against telecoms subscribers.”

According to him, data availability means more youth engagement because they use data to develop apps and build software.

“But with what the NCC has done, these boys who develop apps will be slowed down and limited. The cost of doing business will also increase,” he added.

KEMI OLUNLOYO BLASTS TOKE MAKINWA FOR WEARING EXPOSED DRESS FOR HER BOOK LAUNCH

Controversial media personality Kemi Oluloyo has slamed TV presenter Toke Makinwa for wearing a dress that exposed her laps during her book launch yesterday.
This time she seemed to have taken sides with her arch enemy Linda Ikeji by telling Toke that even Linda Ikeji can never stoop so low to wear such kind of exposed dress with long slit.
Kemi did not spear her as she wrote a very long message addressing how inappropriate the dress was for the occasion.
She recalled all the stories Toke Makinwa said about herself, how she to bleach to please the husband, how she was made to do sex tape and how she caught the hubby cheating on her among others.
She advised her to learn from her advise and fire her stylish who could not recommend better dress for the occasion.
“ I have to slut shame you. This dress was “Chrissy Teigen Slutty”. You did NOT need the high slit! Without the slit you would have been a GEM in that outfit. Your stylist should be FIRED immediately! Take lessons from my letter I wrote you earlier this year.
Advertisers and sponsors are watching your brand. 2017 has no space for this. Young ladies in Nigeria look up to you and 90% are already sex workers who have no idea how to secure a decent job like yours” she wrote

Actress's show gives Nigerian TV a bad rep

The second season of Chika Ike's ' African Diva Reality Show ' reality TV program is the reason why terrestrial TV gets a bad rep.
Not all of Nigerian television is bad but we have to admit that a lot of programmes on terrestrial TV stations shouldn't have made it from an editing suite.
African Diva Reality Show features 22 ladies between the ages of 18 and 35 in a house for weeks and is the brainchild of actress Chika Ike.

The winner will get $10,000, a brand new car, an acting contract, a cover feature in an international magazine and one year supply of Fancy Nancy accessories.
The synopsis of the show sounds pretty cute that's until you seat on your sofa and watch the reality show that pops up only on AIT.
African Diva Reality Show really shouldn't have found its way to television but unfortunately, it did. The show is poorly conceived and riddled with boring contestants. It is held back by poor execution.
That, however, is not the major sin of the reality TV show. Chika Ike makes for a poor host. Her facial expressions and mannerisms don't reflect the talents of a woman who is touted as a popular actress.
Chika Ike might have good ideas for the show but her presence holds the show back. The production can be a whole lot better, way better.
Having a reality show isn't what Chika Ike should be focused on right now. She has a popular name in Nollywood but on the streets, she has not been able to nail a mainstream hit. She needs her own blockbuster movie to define her popular career. Going to TV isn't the best direction.
Chika Ike needs to focus on churning four or five really good movies and leave reality shows to the experts.

Federal Government to construct pipelines from Niger Republic to Kaduna Refinery to curb militancy and vandalism

The federal government has finalised plans of the construction of a 1,000 kilometer crude oil pipelines from Niger Republic to Kaduna Refinery.

This move was decided following the continued difficulty of transporting oil from the Niger Delta region to the Kaduna refinery due to the activities of militants and oil saboteurs.

According to Vanguard, Dr. Maikanti Baru who is the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) spoke at a town hall meeting with management and staff of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) in Kaduna.

Baru said: “Due to challenges with the aged refinery and crude oil pipelines that had been breached severally, the operations of the refinery has been epileptic. This we are determined to resolve through various intervention methods, including evaluation of alternative crude oil supply from Niger Republic through building of a pipelines of over 1, 000 kilometers from Agadem to Kaduna. That effort is being championed by Mr. President himself.”

“It was important to explore alternative crude supply to KRPC, which has been affected by vandalism of pipelines and obsolescence, assuring that the initiative will reduce downtime of the plant and ensure optimal utilisation.

“The Corporation has already started engagements with the Nigerien Minister of Petroleum and the Chinese that are operating the field at Agadem (The Agadem Block is located in the East Niger Rift Basin)”

Baru promised that he would ensure the energy supply project to power industries in Kaduna is made possible with the completion of the Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline.

Power shortage will become a doom's day scenario if not handled properly - NERC Boss

Acting Chairman /Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Anthony Akah, has said that if care is not taken, the shortfall in the power sector will hit N3 trillion by the end of this year. Akah revealed this in a statement over the weekend.

“This is like a doom’s day scenario because if care is not taken, shortfall in power sector will hit N3 trillion by end of 2016. The reason is lack of revenue attributed to the services provided but don’t get paid for”, he said. In October, Nigeria Electricity Hub, an initiative of Nextier Power, said that the Nigerian electricity supply market will record an estimated N1 trillion shortfall by December 2016, which could lead to systemic bankruptcy and a risk of nationwide blackout if left unresolved.

The CEO of Niger Delta Power Holding (NDPHC), Chiedu Ugbo, also stated that since the establishment of the company’s first power plant in 2011, estimated energy invoiced by the eight power plants currently amounted to N235.4 billion. Of this estimate, about 55.3 percent, he explained, has been paid while the remaining 44.7 percent is still outstanding and owed by the Discos, and as of August 2016, debts owed the company by the market stood at N105 billion. “The implication is far reaching: capacity utilisation, low productivity, inability to meet obligations, asset replacement issues and finally it challenges them as a going concern,” the NDPHC boss said.

While speaking, Antony Akah described the huge shortfall as a “doom’s day scenario”, saying it came about as a result of services rendered by the different strata of the sector yet-to-be paid for by consumers. He mentioned power theft, metre by-pass, unpaid bills as some of the causes for the shortfall. He then explained that power loses are usually estimated and added to the bills/tarrifs of those customers with metres.

The Chief Executive Officer, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Azu Obiaya, had earlier assessed the liquidity challenge from the perspective of the Discos. Discos are experiencing a revenue shortfall of N38 billion monthly and that the government alone, through its ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), currently owes the Discos about N58 billion, he said. This, the ANED CEO said, could amount to N309 billion by the end of the year, and that the Discos’ books no longer reflect cash flows that were necessary for lenders to accept funding their ongoing projects.

He also noted that as of December 2015, the Discos were experiencing a revenue shortfall of N298 billion due to the non-cost reflectivity of MYTO.0, a tariff plan then in force in the power sector in Nigeria.

As a result of this, the NERC approved electricity tariff increases to raise liquidity for the sector but its implementation was suspended for about six months, resulting in losses of about N13 billion for the Discos. Apart from these, other losses are coming through inflation of the naira and its weakness against major international currencies as well as from pipeline vandalism.

Senate makes dramatic turn as it drops the name of Buhari's successful nominee for commissioner of NCC

TWELVE days after the Senate cleared Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla, Cross River, South South, as a non-Executive Commissioner on the governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, it has made a dramatic turn by dropping his name from the list of successful nominees sent to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obono-Obla’s name was removed in the letter transmitted to Buhari as one of those confirmed by the legislature.

In the letter dated November 22, signed by Senate President Bukola Saraki, a copy of which was obtained yesterday, Obono-Obla was listed as one of the three whose nominations were rejected by the Senate.
It would be recalled that Oboni-Obla was among the five whose nominations by President Buhari were approved by the Senate on November 17, 2016, while two of the nominees were dropped.

At the plenary, those whose appointments were confirmed were Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye (Chairman/Ogun/South-West), Senator Ifeanyi Ararume(Non- Executive Commissioner/Imo/South East), Sunday Dare (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management/Oyo/South-West), Okoi Ofem; Obono-Obla (Non-Executive Commissioner/Cross River/South-South) and Clement Omeiza Baiye (Non-Executive Commissioner/Kogi/North-Central).
The lawmakers, however, dropped Aliyu Abubakar (Non-Executive Commissioner/Bauchi/North-East) and Pastor Ezekiel Yissa (Non-Executive Commissioner/Kwara/North-Central).
According to the report of Senator Gilbert Nnaji led Committee on Communications, Pastor Ezekiel was rejected because of his background as a nursing officer.
The second nominee rejected by the Senate, Alitu Abubakar, had repeatedly called for the scrapping of the Senate, even when he appeared before the Senate for screening, saying the existence of the Senate was not justifiable.
He also pointed out that the upper chamber was only wasting the nation’s resources by its existence.
Obono-Obla, who is the Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, attached to the Ministry of Justice, protested in an email sent yesterday against what he described as back-door removal.
The mail was titled, Can the Senate President unilaterally overrule the confirmation of a nominee by the Senate?
The nominee, who asked why he was removed after the Senate had confirmed his nomination, simply said: “The entire major electronic and print media organs in the country, on November 17 and 18, 2016, carried the confirmation by the Senate of the Board of Nigerian Communications Commission.
“Surprisingly and curiously, the Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, in a letter dated November 22, 2016, to President Muhammadu Buhari, titled ‘Confirmation of Appointments,’ falsely stated that the Senate did not confirm the following nominees: Aliyu Saidu Abubakar; Pastor Ezekiel Yissa and Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla.”

Why PDP lost to Rotimi Akeredolu's APC - Sen. Buruji Kashamu

Senator Buruji Kashamu yesterday explained why his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, lost the Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election to the All Progressives Congress.

Kashamu, in a statement signed by him, said that no one should mistake the pronouncements of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court over the Ondo State PDP governorship ticket as their judgments on the party’s national leadership crisis.

He said that the refusal of the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to listen to advice on where his successor should come from worked against him and the PDP during the election.

Kashamu said, “We told Governor Mimiko that after eight years in office, the good people of Ondo State would resist the injustice of producing a successor from the same senatorial district where he hails from.

“It is not that Jegede is not a good material. He is urbane, intelligent and smart. He would have probably won had he come from any other senatorial zone than Mimiko’s.

“We told Mimiko that the people would not take anything that would look like a third term for him and his senatorial district. He would not listen.

“ Mimiko turned deaf ears to wise counsel, just like he turned his back on all those who helped him to power.

“Despite being the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mimiko turned himself into Fayose’s puppet, allowing Fayose to lead him by the nose.”

On the claim by the spokesman for the National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, that the party would impose severe sanction on Sheriff and members of his faction, Kashamu said such action would fail.

But he said that neither he nor any member of the faction was afraid of such impending sacrifice since, he said, they were fighting for the interest of their people.

He said, “”No one is afraid of any sanction so long as we know that we are fighting to protect the interest of our people.

“A political party is a congregation of people with a common goal yet with various interests. In every political setting, people align and realign with the bloc or group where they feel their interest is better protected and guaranteed.

“If your bloc or group wins, it does not mean you should seek to emasculate the other because you never can tell what would happen tomorrow.

“I wish to advise that no one should mistake the verdicts of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court over the Ondo State PDP governorship ticket as their pronouncements on the national leadership crisis.

“They are two separate issues that I hope we can still resolve amicably. Anyone talking of sanctioning any member of the party for fighting to protect his interest does not wish the party well.”

He said that the gale of sanctions in Osun, Ogun and Kwara states would further exacerbate the crisis in the party, adding, “the truth is, such a move that will further undermine the party and its leadership.

“Is anyone saying that if tomorrow the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court rule in favour of any of the national leaders, he should send all those in support of the other out of the party when all the 36 states are polarised along the lines of Senators Sheriff and Makarfi? No. That is not the spirit of party politics and participatory democracy.”

30 Million Bank Accounts Abandoned By Nigerians.

The total number of inactive bank accounts in Nigeria stand at 30.26 million despite efforts by banks to retain old customers and attract new ones.

The accounts, activated by commercial banks for new holders but later abandoned to dormancy by the customers now constitute 32.42 per cent of the total 94.388 million activated bank accounts in the country.

Consequently, only 64.128 million accounts that represent 68.7 per cent of the total activated accounts domiciled in commercial banks are functional.

According to the latest industry statistics obtained by Daily Trust from the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Plc over the weekend, the growing wave of new, active and dormant accounts across savings and currents account types in the country has been progressively steady.

Giving the year-to-date (YTD) analysis of the latest report up till October this year, NIBSS indicated that a total of 4.13 million accounts have become dormant within the period, jacking up dormant account base to the current figure from 26.042 million it stood at the end Q4, 2015.

NIBSS further stated that from a figure of 85.018 million accounts in December 2105, total account base in the country has grown by 11.02 per cent as 9.37 million new accounts were activated within the period.

In its breakdown, 30.063 million, 2.896 million and 2.365 million new accounts came on board in Q1, Q2 and Q3 2016 respectively, while in October, the figure maintained the upward momentum by 1.12 per cent as 1.046 million new accounts were recorded in the month alone.

Meanwhile, further analysis data revealed savings accounts as constituting the largest chunk of the total activated bank accounts as it stood at 66.255 million while current accounts are just 25.58 million.

Experts have also warned that Nigerians, who make use of dormant bank accounts, should not throw caution to the wind as the account might generate debt.

A customer, who preferred not to be named, recounted her ordeal with one of Nigeria’s leading banks, saying “My dormant bank account generated a debt which kept growing overtime, so, one must be careful.”

According to Investopedia, a dormant account has had no activity for a long period of time, other than posting interest and a statute of limitations usually does not apply to it, so funds can be claimed by the owner or beneficiary at any time.

However, it will be recalled that until a new dormant account management policy was released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) late in 2015, commercial banks in Nigeria have always converted customers’ money in dormant accounts from liabilities to income of the banks. While the apex bank put an end to this standard by also directing banks to reverse such conversion of customers’ money made five years before the 2015 policy which was in favour of account holders, analysts said this must have also contributed to the growing rate of dormant accounts.

African Man Marries His Own Mother

Slovo Park near Siyabuswa, South Africa, villagers were torn with joy and surprise as they witnessed a rather strange wedding where a mother and son exchanged wedding vows.

The son, a traditional healer from Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga, said he married his biological mother in awedding ceremony to appease his ancestors. He now calls his mother “my wife”.

On Sunday more than 2000 people turned up to witness the wedding of ButiMphethi, 28, to his mother Francinah Makunyane, 62.
But it wasn’t the kind of marriage where a man takes a wife to love and have children.

Buti Mhethi married his mother so that she could be accepted into the Mphethi family.

“The ancestors will reward Buti for what he has done today,” said his 62-year-old mother, Francinah, whose family name used to be Makunyane.

Now she is a proud member of the Mphethi family.

Pastor makes cool cash from sales of anointed cucumber

A Zimbabwean clergyman, Prophet Walter Magaya, has made money from his congregation through the sale of what he called anointed cucumber.
This has led to a bit of negativity on social media, especially on micro blogging site, Twitter .
A user with the ID @mcicewater attributed the occurrence as a sign of the end time.
He wrote, "Signs of the end time. Zimbabwean prophet Walter Magaya allegedly sold anointed cucumbers to his church."

According to reports, Magaya is currently in Nigeria to visit the Synagogue Church of Nations leader, Pastor T.B Joshua .
It has been rumored that the latter gave him the power to perform miracles.

I slept for 22 hrs in London hospital after heart surgery – Tony Anenih

Octogenarian and a former Board of Trustees, BoT, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, yesterday, revealed how he slept for 22 hours when he underwent a major heart snuggery at a private hospital in London.
Chief Anenih, who spoke during a thanksgiving service in his honour held at the Our Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church, Area 3, Abuja, recalled that about seven doctors conducted surgeries that lasted for eight hours on him when the major artery pumping blood to his heart got burst.
Recall the rumour death of the sage politician, Chief Tony Anenih went viral lat year shortly after the conduct of the 2015 presidential election, where his party, the PDP, lost the presidency to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
He was reportedly dead in the Royal Brompton Hospital, London in the presence of his wife and personal physician.
Those who attended the thanksgiving service include, former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, second Republic vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, former Minister of Works, Chief Mike Onononelemen, former Minister of Environment, Mr. John Ode, former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, African’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and Head of Service, Stephen Oronsaye amongst others.
Chief Anenih in reminiscence of the incident told the bewildered congregation that he went to London to undergo eyes surgery before the heart disease came up in the process.
According to him, “There’s nothing God cannot do if you believe in Him sincerely. If 200 Anenihs told you that you won’t achieve your goals and God says otherwise, then the sky is your limit. The only being that would be with you when you are in critical position is God.
“I had a problem with my heart. The major artery that transports blood to the heart got burst. So I was subjected to eight hours of surgery and seven doctors were carefully selected to do that because of their experience.
“Before the operation, the seven doctors told the people that accompanied me that I won’t make it loudly to my hearing. Then I said to myself, if I am not going to make it, then it is better I go to my flat and board any available flight to my home. But on a second thought, I said to myself, God brought me here to remove something in my eyes. But it may be for another reason.
“Then I gave my family that was with some words of encouragement. I assured them that God that brought me here would see me through to the theatre and bring me back alive.
“Then the seven doctors looked at themselves and smile, they took my bed to the theatre and shot the door. When they finished, they were surprised that surgery that took eight hours they removed two arteries from my body. When they connected the new ones to my body, they were shocked that my heart began to function as if there was never a surgery.
“They sent me to intensive care unit where I slept for 22 hours without waking up. The Chief Medical Director was waiting for the bad news of possible death, but I after 22 hours I woke up.
“One of the nurse told the doctor that the man had woken and his response was stop it!. He came to my bed and asked if I am fine and responded yes. I said doctor, I am very fine. He said I have started having pains and I screened no pain!.
“In fact, I asked if he has not done the operation and he said, Chief we have finished the surgery 23 ago. He also told me that the hospital is 150 years old and this is the first miracle God has performed. This happened a year and two months ago.”
On his philanthropic service the church of God, Chief Anenih recalled how he made a vow to contribute N100 million to church building project when the leadership of the church approached him on the issue.
According to him, “I requested to know the cost of finishing the building and they said N200 million and promised to pay half of it. I sent my first instalment of N50 million but unfortunately, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, did not approve the building resulting in the delay of the work.
“But when I came to submit my letter to the cardinal telling him about the low key thanksgiving service, the cathedral administrator reminded me about the great help I rendered.
He said that it was two weeks ago that they got the approval they applied for some three years ago and I said thanks for reminding me. Now that I had opportunity to speak, I have told the cathedral administrator that once they start the construction, I will pay the balance of N50 million.”
In his sermon, Bishop Donatus urged the politician to continue to be doing good to the people and in service of the lord because God has not yet finished with him. He told Chief Anenih to continue to give God thanksgiving in the event of the incident of last year.

'I am not keen about sex or women'

Bobrisky has taken a frank stance regarding his sexual desires after claiming that he is not really into sex or women.
The bleaching specialist mentioned this in an interview with Vanguard News , following questions about his sexual orientation.
“I am not a womaniser but that does not mean I can’t get down with a woman.
One man’s food is another man’s poison. I am not the type who really loves sex or women.
"It takes a while for me to get into relationships. I went to a boarding school so I have been trained to be indoor.
“You hardly see me everywhere which makes it difficult to really be into women. I am only popular because God wants me to.
"I hardly attend parties or grant interviews. I didn’t struggle to be out there. Some habits are peculiar to men like drinking, smoking etc."
Concerning his relationship status, the cross dresser finally disclosed that he is indeed in a relationship with a lady currently in London.
This will no doubt relief him of more questions concerning if he is gay or not.
"My girlfriend is in London and she has been calling me to know the situation of things."
Bobrisky, who hails from a Muslim family has also disclosed that practicing Islam would have been a problem for him if he was still actively involved in it.
