Justin Ross Harris, from Atlanta, Georgia in the US, is accused of murdering his son on June 18, 2014.
The 34-year-old allegedly left his 22-month-old son Cooper in the car for seven hours.
Harris is said to have gone to work while his son waited in the car on a day where temperatures reached 31C.
During the working day, the court heard how Harris sent sexual messages to a teenage girl.
In one message, he allegedly asked for pictures of her breasts.
In another message the girl, who is now 19, says she sent him an image saying she was "super sunburned."
He is claimed to have replied: "Yummy."
Addressing Glynn County Court, she told how she met Harris online in 2013.
She says that Harris told her he wanted a relationship with her like the one depicted in the book 50 Shades of Grey.
She said: "When it started, it was strictly sexual.
"Then at times it would be like a normal conversation."
Alongside murder, Harris is also accused of sending explicit images and messages to the girl.
Prosecutors have told the court that Harris killed his son intentionally.
They claim that he wanted to escape the responsibilities of being a family man.
However his defence claim the death was an accident.
They told the court that Harris was on his way into work but forgot to drop the toddler off.
The trial continues
