Recession : MTN's alleged repatriated 14 billion dollars could lift Nigeria from recessioon - Bukola Saraki

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has said on Thursday that the $13.9bn allegedly repatriated by MTN Nigeria was enough to pull the country out of recession.

The Lawmaker disclosed this while opening the legislative hearing on the alleged repatriation of the funds by MTN, nation’s giant telecoms provider, in connivance with some Nigerian banks and individuals.

The President of the Senate, was represented by the Majority Whip of the Senate, Mr. Olusola Adeyeye, said that the amount involved was mind boggling.

He said, “The amount of money involved in the alleged repatriation by MTN could pull Nigeria out of recession.

“We are duty bound to make sure that such breach of constitutional processes are investigated; be assured that this is not witch-hunt but a fact finding exercise.

“This 8th senate has devoted a lot of attention on legislations that will improve the business environment.

“This hearing goes to show this commitment and so we expect maximum cooperation from the regulatory authorities; failure to do so will mean culpability.

“We intend to get to the bottom of this and get the facts and nothing but the fact.

“At the end of this, based on the calibre of people that are here, Nigerian will get to know the truth about what transpired.”

Saraki urged the committee to be thorough in their investigation.

In his opening remark, the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim, said that the investigation was not a witch-hunt but an avenue to block loopholes and revenue leakages.

He berated the individuals, who did not honour the invitation of the senate, stressing that they would be handled appropriately.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dino Melaye, alleged that the crime of repatriating funds was not done by only MTN.

Melaye, who blew the whistle on MTN on the alleged repatriation, said that a number of multinational companies were also engaging in repatriation of funds.

He expressed hope that those companies which had been engaging in the repatriation would also be uncovered by the investigation.

Aisha Buhari under fire for shaking a man in Belgium (photos)

Some Northern fundamentalists are not cool with the fact that President Buhari’s wife, Aisha, shook hands with a white man.

They think she deliberately decided to go against the ethics of the Islamic religion.

Aisha Buhari posted a picture of her in a handshake with a man in Belgium. As expected, northerners descended on her for the ‘reckless’ action. It should be noted that a large section of the lslamic women from the northern part of the country are opposed to shaking hands with men other than their husbands. The action is seen as flirtatious especially when taken by married women.

Some of the commenters defended the seemingly innocent handshake but they were outrightly outnumbered. Read how the drama played out below on her fan page:

Mother from Hell : Woman murders own Son becauase he caught her having sex with her Grandfather

A mother, Veronica Panarello, received a 30-year jail term for murdering her son because he discovered she was having an affair with his grandfather.

Veronica Panarello strangled her son Loris Stival with electrical cables then abandoned his body in a remote gully in Santa Croce, Sicily, Metro UK reported.

She thereafter lied to the police that the boy had been kidnapped.

She said she had taken Stival to school but was not seen as for the time she went back to get him in the afternoon.

Nevertheless, CCTV footage showed that she had not dropped him off at school that day.

Prosecutors branded her an ‘egocentric, manipulative liar.’

Even after she had been found guilty of Loris’ murder and received the sentence, she continued to deny the act.

She also blamed the husband’s father, Andrea Stival, When she confessed that her son had been killed in November 2014.

She told an earlier hearing that he had helped to plot and then carried out the murder because Loris had caught them having sex.

Stival is being investigated as an accessory to murder, according to Italian media.

He has denied the claim and is threatening to sue his daughter-in-law for slander, it has emerged.

Her husband has now filed for divorce.
